Default 2012 Japan Car Sales Ranking

I've filtered the list to include only Toyota, Lexus, BMW, Mercedes and Audi, and marked any Toyotas that are Lexus-related in bold. Check the link for the full ranking.

It's good to know that, without the ES, the GS can lead Lexus's sales chart.

fantastic list, great work!!!!

i am a bit surprised at the sales of IS, i thought it would be more and more comparable to C and 3. it is also great to see the GS went up above 5 and E,that says a lot about the car and what toyota has done. and i think the LS is clearly the strongest and most important thing to get out of this comparison. it beats the S and 7 by a huge margin (% wise). it shows how loyal people in japan are to its own premium brand

^Thanks. Perhaps the IS was too old to compete? The C-Class sales is incredible though. Let's see what the new IS can do this year.

very possible. 3 series is already new and c has gotten a facelift. i think it would be very very interesting to see this again next year and how the IS beats those 2

Yup totally. The LS beats the S, 7 and A8 combined by a huge margin, although we have to keep in mind that Lexus does have the home court advantage there (no import tax).

yes, owning euro is a very "expensive luxury" in japan, and with the brand loyalty toyota / lexus are definitely in an advantageous position. but the margin is just insane, on a flagship!

When I was in Tokyo I saw LS600's everywhere. (Many of them were chauffer-driven by tiny guys squished to the front with the driver seat pushed far ahead to maximize their boss's legroom. )

Rankings are meaningless. Japan is the most brytally protectionist auto market around. The top 56 models on that list are all Japanese.

I believe the title of "the most brutally protectionist auto market" belongs to the South Korea, although Japan isn't too far behind indeed.

kind of... they like their german luxury cars all right... and there are no protection schemes in Japan, you simply have to make car that Japanese like and the list of their bestsellers is completely different set of vehicles than rest of the world.

When it comes to 3IS, Japanese like hybrids and over 40% of all Toyota sales in Japan today are hybrids.

IS300h will sell very good, probably end up being best selling Lexus in 2013, despite really big price.
