Honda CRV or RAV 4 which engine is better?
Honda 2.4 185 horse power at 7k RPM 162 lbs torque 5 Speeds MPG 23/31
RAV 4 176 horse power at 6k RPM 172lbs torque 6 Speeds MPG 24/31
Is honda a little faster since it advance on the horsepower and RPM. I understand they are almost the same but due to the toyota advance on 6 speeds and a little more torque?

best is you try the both and let us know :-)
unless we had real torque curves from the dyno, it is hard to say. So far everyone has been writing how 2.5l in Rav4 with 6 speed is very good.

I think the difference is insignificant. I would be more concerned about weight and driving dynamics. The extra cog on the Rav will surely be noticeable when driving in hills/mountains, or with full capacity loads.
One note: CRV has its 4-banger. Rav4 has its 4-banger and EV electric engines; and the purported hybrid coming soon. We'll see how this will all pan out when it comes to sales figures...

I've driven both, and the 2012 RAV-4's engine/drivetrain (with the automatic) feels significantly smoother (haven't sampled the all-new 2013 yet). The 2012 model, though, had a dated 4-speed automatic.
The CR-V, though, IMO, has other advantages. I think its overall quality-level and build-solidness (especially the interior) is better than the RAV-4's. A number of things on the RAV-4 feel cheap in comparison.

I don't have a specific technical answer to your horsepower/torque question other than I did compare these two vehicles about 10 months ago in the process of purchasing a new car for my wife and I can tell you that engine/drive-train on these two were both good and known to be very reliable. So much so that drive-train was not part of our decisioning process for these two.
With this in mind I'd focus in other aspects of the two and see what fits your needs/wants best. Definitely check out the new RAV4 when comparing and let us know what you think after you drive them.

Actually, it would be best if you did the review :-). And let us know how it is.... it should be at dealers now.

I have driven the 2012 CR-V, and the 2010 RAV4 and 2011 Camry. The RAV4 and Camry have the same 2.5-litre engine. I found the Toyota engine to be much more refined -- much smoother and quieter -- than the Honda engine.

Go test drive a v6 Rav4. Granted fuel economy is a little worse at 19 city/27 highway for a 2wd, but that's still pretty damn respectable IMO. You really won't give a damn once you put your foot down in a v6 rav4. Its REALLY DAMN QUICK for a cheaper suv, we're talking 260hp, mid 14 second quarter mile et's here. The 4 cylinders in the CRV and Rav4 are dogs IMO, especially once you load one of these things up with 3 people and luggage for a trip. The v6 model won't even notice that you have an additonal 700-1000lbs aboard.

Yeah, 269hp of pure fun. The 2GR-FE has to be the best naturally aspirated v6 engine on the market. This despite its "old school" port fuel injection and hasn't been changed since its 2006 debut.
In addition to its madhouse power(IMO 269hp is under-rated), its silky smooth, extremely quiet, and gets great gas mileage considering its more powerful than any other v6 and most small v8's. Really that engine is the sole reason I'd buy a Rav4, even though I think the competition has a serious one up on the dash design.

My wife had a '06 RAV 4 cyl for 3 years.I felt the 4 cyl was weak for the RAV.
The CR-V is a slug too but the handling, interior was so much better.
