Do not adjust your computer screen, you are not seeing the rebirth of the Pontiac brand. General Motors has chosen to use a G8 to disguise a test mule for the latest prototype of the forthcoming Chevrolet SS. The G8 was closely related to the Holden Commodore and Vauxhall VXR, the platform upon which the new Chevrolet performance model will be based. It should come as little surprise, then, that GM has opted to use the cladding from the former G8.

Thought the front clip of this mule is pure Pontiac, note the vents immediately behind the front wheel. That is a distinctive design hallmark of the Vauxhall VXR. Also note that this vehicle is right-hand drive, as the Holden and its Chevy counterpart will be very closely related. That likely includes potential drivetrains. The spy photos of this mule also reveal very wide rear tires, and rear wheels that do not match the fronts.

Production of all three vehicles is set to begin in Australia in late 2013

Far from a GM fan but I do applaud them offering a large RWD sedan alongside it's FWD Cruze, Malibu, and now Impala

The previous SS models were all jokes. None were real contenders. Just tarted up American cars. Hopefully these will be better.

The new police PPV received a very good review, which will be the next SS in civilian form.

I came so very very close to picking up a V8 G8 before they were gone. Glad to see that model line coming back!

me too....GXP...loved it..utterly loved it and the car still turns my head. They should have kept selling it as a Chevy immediately. We need more good looking cars

Same here. I remember being very impressed after the test drive. It's a big car but it doesn't look it and it certainly didn't feel it.

Holden has said this car will be lighter than the previous model too.

Me four. The G8 was a very nice "basic" performance car package. Don't ugly up the styling, keep it classy and this should be a great addition to the Chevy family.

Wow pretty cool....I loved it, the space was great, trunk was huge, interior of course was not Lexus-like but it was far from bad. Car was fast, handled well, braked well and we know mods are cheap!! Just got scared off from the GM/Pontiac deal and then Pontiac was toast....
