Not much I can add here......most of these are good replies.
320K, though, on an Escalade? What did your dad do to get that kind of longevity on a GM SUV of that era? In all fairness, though, despite the cracker-jack assembly, Push-and-Pray brakes, and cheap materials, those older big GM SUVs did have durable engines.

320k seems like the norm for these trucks, they surpass 200k without trying, although many features stop working or break, after moving to Atlanta I have realized GM trucks are just the Camry of the south and it very common to see these things with 200+

That was more or less what I was getting at...the 5.7L and 6.2L V8s in the big GM full-size trucks and SUVs do seem to be quite durable, but much of the rest of the vehicle (especially the brakes) had problems for years. 300K+ still, to me, seems like more than average for these trucks, but I'll take your word for it. You apparantly have seen more high-mileage samples of them than I have.

Thanks for all the replies! We actually got a Ford Edge 3.7L with AWD! Great car with sport shift, a tow package was part of the deal and included the hitch, an engine cooler as well as a transmission cooler! Held it's composure well at a stand-still in 110 degree weather!
The Escalade lasted 300K+ miles mostly because of frequent oil changes, although it had it's fair share of steering pump problems and transmission problems. It broke down quite a few often towards the end of it's life and we were afraid taking it on a 260+ mile trip would push it over the top. It did us well and can't wait to see how the Ford Edge does, but it certainly is an amazing car and I had no problem driving it through Death Valley!
