Both cars are older luxury cars and if they are rebuilt/salvage IMO you are looking at money-pits for dailys. Honestly the GS 300 gets 1 MPG better than a 400 so its hard to recommend it. The older RX, well feels old at this point but the utility is there if you need it, the GS has no fold down seat.
Having driven both as daily's they are completely different but each had their own merits. If you already own a car, then the RX might make more logical sense in case.
Also to me there is a difference in the build quality of the two. The GS being a higher class vehicle has better materials and aged better to me.
I went to see the GS yesterday. There were only a few issues.
1. Theres a large rip on the driver seat (where your butt goes)
2. The plastic/rubber piece on the passenger fender is hanging off.
3. The passenger fender is damage. Its like someone tried to roll fender but f* up half way.
Other then that it seems to be in ok condition. So with the issues listed above what is a good price to offer? Thanks
The RX on the other hand seems to be in good condition. Looks mint but the seller isn't willing to go much lower than this asking price of $5k.
Here are some photos of the GS. Looking at the pics how many do y'all think its worth? Seller is asking $4,500. It has 130k on it, and with the minor issues listed above. Thanks
used to own a 2000 RX. Go RX if its not an AWD. If its AWD don't bother. Problems with trannies in those years.
1st, I'm sorry to bump such an old thread but the SO now needs an SUV. Thinking of trading in the E39 for a 2000 AWD RX. It has only 105k on it and its pretty clean. Can someone please tell me more about the issue with the AWD model? Thanks again CL

Change the oil every 15k miles in the transmission, and you should be fine. I have over 190k miles on my original transmission, and my uncle has close to 385k miles on his original transmission as well. Both of our RX's are AWD, no problems.
