I honestly don't see why not. In the past there was a beautiful purity to the "M" brand where they didn't care about volume and only cared to build the best luxury sport vehicles on the planet. With their complete change of philosophy to volume which now includes 2 SUVs there is no reason why a M7 should not be offered.
I actually adore the Alpina B7, they are not seen as a tuner but a manufacturer and BMW backs them with their warranty.

Yes I think their direction is changing, now they are going to M everything like what AMG does.

I am not saying the B7 is a tuner job. I just meant it looks and feels like a tuner job. It doesn't look classy and elegant like an OEM performance model. It looks like a kid got dad's ride and pimped it at the local speed shop, instead of an executive driving a flagship performance sedan.
If they just simply stuff the M5 engine in the M7, IMO, is not going to cut it. A B7 is making that much. That's why it should have a V12TT, they have it, just tune the 760 motor for more power.
nothing to get excited about at all, even the M5 is not the drivers' car they used to be , if I want a fun to drive car, I get a REAL sports car , not an oversized land sports boat

I agree about the excitement dept.
although an S63/65 is a pretty good boat

I would admit from a prestige point of view, the S63/65 are cool to have as status symbols, I won't mind one if I decide I have lots of extra cash to burn
