Default 2012 Hyundai Accent Hatch, Good Choice?

So the gf is looking for her first car. She really likes the new accent hatch and we've gone out to test it. Would like to hear what everyone's thought on this hatch is and other possible suggestions in the same segment. Thanks!

I'd say yes. It's getting decent reviews and Hyundai is on a role lately. New Accent is going over well for them.

How about the Mini Cooper? VW Beetle?

They're a bit more premium, but has a lot more charm.

great article.

Three years ago, the entry-level class was dominated by personality-free penalty boxes like the Versa, the Toyota Yaris and the Chevrolet Aveo. This new Accent, however, arrives in a market crammed with excellent recent arrivals like the Ford Fiesta, Mazda 2, Honda Fit and the shockingly well-rounded Chevrolet Sonic, not to mention the Accent’s close cousin, the Kia Rio. As good as the Accent is, there are direct alternatives worth considering alongside it.

But this Hyundai is also enjoyable and versatile enough that some shoppers might consider moving down-market to the Accent from larger, significantly more expensive cars like the indifferent Honda Civic, the decrepit Toyota Corolla and the stale Nissan Sentra. At this point, no car does ordinary better than the Accent.
this.

Hahaha! No doubt.

This segment is so competitive, I really don't think the OP can go wrong. Test drive all of them (best part of car shopping, IMHO) and pick the one that you can sit in most comfortably, has the best option packages, and of course, which dealer is willing to got hat little extra mile. I'm partial towards the Sonic, I think it looks the coolest, but I haven't driven any of them.

Thanks for all the input so far! We actually had a really bad experience at the Hyundai dealership. The sales guy told us that we couldn't test drive the hatch because its a brand new car and the dealership didn't want to put mileage on them. I was like ok........ we ended up test driving the sedan. We then sat down to chat about numbers and he basically told me there is no negotiation unless we were committed on buying (Hyundai Policy) which I thought was kinda BS on his part and on top of that their msrp was almost 1.5k more then listed.

Talked to a family friend who owns a shop and he said try to stay away from Hyundai as they are notorious for reliability and customer service.

well looks like you just experience that. As listed above, there are plenty of cars in this segment and one bound to suit your GFs needs

Wow. Definitely do not go back. So many good cars to choose from in this segment, no need to put up with an idiotic dealership.

Yes, they are more nifty, style-wise, but the Accent is a safer, more fool-proof purchase.....better reliability, lower price, and a much longer warranty.
