Default Car prices going up?

After the natural disasters in Japan, Honda/Toyota halted production. So do you think the car prices in Honda/Toyota will go up? Will everyone rush to buy a japan make before prices go up in couple months?

I am asking this because I am looking to buy a highlander soon. I just wanted to see how the gas prices will do in the future before I make my final decision. Cause if I waited too late, the highlander will go up in pricing and gas prices will go up too.. It a lose-lose situation for me. Should I buy it soon (couple weeks) or wait n see?

if they have less cars, dealers will definitely not give as big discounts... but i doubt that situation will last forever... i think that Lexus is in bigger problems than Toyota with 15 day stock average.

It might lead to a short-term shortage for the vehicles that are only assembled in Japan, such as the LS or Prius. I'm not sure which plants are affected, though. Shouldn't matter much for the Highlander, as it is assembled elsewhere.

Although most Japanese cars nowdays are assembled in the U.S., they still do get parts from Japan. With that being said factories arent going to let a car pass through without it being fully assembled.

should be a supply issue. not a price issue.

they can't raise prices if they want to stay competitive.

It was reported that only a hand full of models would be affected by damaged plants. Supposedly, though, the plants don't have major structural damage.

The models include the Toyota Yaris sedan, the Scion xD & xB, and Honda Fit.

There won't be a major disruption in the inventory we have in the US since many of America's best sellers are made here and elsewhere.

I can imagine the cars will be a little harder to get, especially with specific options. This means they may take a bit to find the perfect car for you or you will need to go with something slightly different

Before we start predicting runaway inflation or major supply problems with Japanese-built cars, let's see, first, see how quickly the Japanese can get the affected auto plants, and the infrastructure and parts-manufacturers that supply them, repaired and operating again. The Japanese are an industrious and hard-working people, and if any country on earth today can cope with something like this, they can. They have dealt with many natural disasters, including earthquakes and tsunamis, in the past......not to mention what our B-29 bombers, in both fire-bombs and atomic raids, did to their cities in World War II.
