All in all I thought this was a pretty terrible year for automotive superbowl advertising.

Ford's Focus Rally commercials didn't tell enough of a story while trying to convey a lot of personality in a short spot.

The Audi spot was really disappointing IMO. Cheesy, overplayed and weak on messaging...while trying to sell an 80k car? No.

The BMW X3 spot was nicely done but easily forgotten among so many other better executed ads. The diesel spot was good but similarly uninspiring IMO.

Chevy's Cruze and Silverado spots were just plain stupid. The Volt "progress" one was pretty good.

Merc's heritage ad was overdone for what the message was. The lead up made you think something epic was about to happen, not just "here is our new lineup of cars."

The Hyundai spots, like many of the above, were forgettable IMO. Their best ad is the sheep and Elantra one and I have no idea why they didn't run that tonight.

Tundra spot was a waste of money.

Chrysler's spot with the 200 just had me shaking my head. Nice try, but the Eminem thing is a complete turn off esp after his Brisk spot.

TSX was lolol.

I guess that leaves me with VW's spots which I had already seen here. The Darth Vader spot was the only one that left any type of lasting impression IMO, so kudos to them.

 

I thought that was the best one.

 

i guess the only really 'memorable' one was the darth vadar kid / vw one, but maybe because i'd seen it linked here first!

i thought the kia one was incredibly creative though.

the mercedes one with p.diddy in it was a monumental waste of money.

now i see the camaro one linked above (with all the different people/places in it), i did think that was good too.

 

The Kia Optima is a sign of the Apocalypse.

It will kill us all in 2012.

The Mayans predicted it...

 

Over all I was not impressed with the commercials this year. The only one I really liked was the Bridgestone Tires one with the beaver. It actually had to do with the product and it was funny.

 

Chrysler's spot , I thought the content was great as to what is said about detroit, what we been through and what we can do

may not have hit home to others, but I liked the imported from detroit line

 

It would have been hilarious to see the new 300 in that commercial.

I might have missed this commercial during the Super Bowl. Not sure if it was aired but BMW's page on Facebook showed it on Super Bowl Sunday.

of all the ads, i think the vw darth vadar one is the best

 

They said on the news today there have been 14,000,000 hits online for the commercial. Add in the number of people who saw it during the game and I'm sure VW is very happy with the exposure.
