Hey CL, anyone like the Volvo xc90 SUV.
Like this.

There is a guy offering me an AWD 5 cyl like a 2007-ish model (they all seem the same since like 2003 from what i see) in trade for my IS300 and i know it's worth it by far on the money side, but are these SUV's worth a flip?

I've always been a big fan of the XC90. Probably not many will choose it over other mainstream competitors, but it's a nice upscale SUV. This one has the Yamaha V8 too!

They tend to have reliability issues and are pricey to repair. They are rated pretty low in reliability studies. That would keep me away from them. I would be cautious if he is just trading his xc90 for your IS300, I would think he could get much more money if he sold his which may mean there is something wrong with it. The Volvo will be much better in the snow then your IS300 though

I've always like the design of them, but other than that meh. The only engine I'd consider is the V8, cause both the I5 and V6 are raspy and unpolished. In terms of interior, hard plastics and leathers are abundant (definitely not worth the premium price IMO). Oh and careful of the drivers seat on the left side where the memory seat controls are. THE WORST location I've ever seen. Climbing in and out of the car, you have to be careful not to put your weight on it less it'll break. I see cracked ones constantly at our dealer.

We test drove the diesel version a few years ago. It was okay but my dad said that 2.4 liter diesel engine (D5244 series) was anemic on a two-ton SUV.
He felt that it lacked power for the XC90.
So yeah, the D5 diesel engine would be fine for an XC60 or XC70.....but for an XC90, it seems anemic.
Better go for the Yamaha V8 instead

It's just that the XC90 is yeah outdated (it was launched in year 2002). The next-gen version was supposed to be introduced last year.......but they extended it for two years to improve the mechanicals further.
In short, this thing will be ten years old.
