A friend at work just used truecar to buy a MDX last week.

I was browsing for a C6 GS a month or so ago and found 3 dealers in my area willing to sell me the car at the truecar price. I will definitely go that direction when it is time for a new one.

i dont see the problem with truecar and they are definetly not an broker.

if dealer offers one price and then once you go into the store offers you another, that has nothing to do with truecar, but with scammy dealer, and could happen over the phone or email.

The problem is that while customers and dealers may like the service, regulators in a number of states feel the service violates code they have on the books. Unfortunately (for automakers and services like TrueCar), the regulations on car sales and dealers are set state-by-state. Chrysler ran into a problem opening what was found to essentially be a company-owned dealership in California. Apparently, VW is facing the same trouble.

The current independent dealer business model was codified by states over the years to protect the consumer and independent dealership owners. Changing those rules is a slow process.
