BMW announces pricing for 2011 X3

We're about to drive the 2011 BMW X3, but before we get behind the wheel, BMW has announced pricing for its next-gen. cute 'ute, and as before, the new CUV will be offered in two trims. The base X3 xDrive28i, which features a 240 horsepower inline-six, will start at $37,625. The more powerful xDrive35i, which boasts a 300-hp turbocharged six-cylinder engine, starts $41,925. Both models come standard with all-wheel drive and BMW's eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2011 BMW X3 will arrive in dealer showrooms at the end of 2010, and both models will be available at launch.

Additionally, Blackberry users will have something to be excited about. The X3 is fitted with technology to pull loads of utility out of its smartphone integration. The navigation screen can display emails when the car is stationary, and when it's in motion, the system utilizes a text-to-speech program to read messages through the audio system.

The base price of the 2011 BMW X3, even though the car has been refreshed and features more standard items, is less than the 2010 model it replaces. It's a $2,100 price drop down from the 2010 base MSRP of $39,725.

Standard AWD? Interesting move...wonder what MPG will be like.

Price is competitive and I expect them to sell plenty of these.

I like it, I may buy a non-Turbo version later (for use as 3rd vehicle for all-weather usage). Nice to see AWD standard as I want it in my SUV. I expect it to be considerably smaller (in terms of interior sizing) than the RX or X5 and more comparable to the GLK and Q5.

This is going to be super popular. Lots of people are gonna eat this up.

Lexus should compete with a cute ute too, not a sports wagon (not a CT, nor an IS sportcross).

Price is solid. The reviews overseas are lukewarm at best. This will of course sell like hotcakes
1. Its a BMW
2. Its new
3. Its a SUV

I will look looking at sales in the cute ute class to see if the Q5 and GLK are directly hit.

^I'm betting that the GLK will be hurt worse than the Q5. IMO, the GLK is just about as bad as the 1Gen X3.

Let me get this straight. You don't like the design of the GLK, so the car is "bad"?

I've ridden in the GLK. I liked it. The design is unique (design is subjective) and the inside is pleasing. It might not be as sporty as its rivals, but it certainly feels solid, safe, comfortable and premium.

Sorry the GLK is an awful SUV to drive and doesn't feel premium at all. However as MP is pointing it, it has the right badge, like the first gen X3 so people overlook its awfulness to own a "BMW" or "Mercedes".

This new X3 will surely be a lot better.

GLK is just gross. Quite frankly, with Merc, only the top of the line models (S class, SL, etc) are proper Mercs. Drive the S class and then drive ML, E, GLK, its not even close.

Where did I say that because I didn't like the design of the GLK, it is a bad car?

IMO the interior is no better than a CRV or Rav4 - the design and layout are both horrible.

It's also got a weaker engine that the competition and average fuel economy.

In typical German fashion, wanting metallic paint and real leather adds $2,500 to your base price, then tick a few average option boxes: AWD ($2,000), bi-xenon headlights ($985), navigation and media ($3,000), push button start ($1140), heated seats ($750)and it gets expensive quickly...just under $47,000 to be exact.

I think that's too much coin for what you're getting. The Q5 is more upscale looking and feeling, and I'd rather spend my money there. Same for an RX.

The more I look at this new X3, the less I like it.

To me it looks like BMW's version of the Pontiac Torrent.

This class of premium SUV is relatively small in terms of sales numbers (GLK, X3 and Q5 being best examples). But the potential for sales growth is probably good for the next decade and profit margins potentially quite high. IMO, Lexus needs to join BMW/MB/Audi in offering a 'ute of this size.

Looks good but for it's price give me the bigger and roomier Lexus RX don't care if it's not as sporty or whatever.
