Spy Shots: Saab 9-4X leaks out ahead of production debut

Now that the fate of Saab is in the hands of Spyker Cars, future product plans seem to be moving right along. The new 9-5 is out on the road and the 9-4X crossover is scheduled to make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this November.
Our friends at Saabs United managed to snag some shots of a pre-production 9-4X, giving us a glimpse of the automaker's new CUV before we see it in person later this year. The 9-4X was initially conceived under Saab's General Motors ownership, meaning its underpinnings are shared with the Cadillac SRX crossover. Word on the street is that the production taillamps will look slightly different than the ones on this early model, but that aside, don't expect things to change much between now and November.
Because the 9-4X is closely related to the SRX, we fully expect the 2.8-liter turbocharged V6 to be under the hood. Don't rule out the possibility of the 9-5's 2.0-liter turbo four being offered, as well. Both engines will more than likely be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and as the "x" in the name suggests, all-wheel drive will be on hand.

I have the same concerns, premium car pricing for a not quite competitive product (when compared to premium car competition), not to mention depreciation and customer service concerns.

This is still a product designed at the 'old Saab' that was still part of GM. Hopefully the new Saab free from GM leadership will go back it its Saab roots and bring more unique and exciting products to market.

^^Built on the same platform as the SRX, so close in size to the RX.
I do like this SUV so far. I think they will be successful, but it will take some time for them to get back on track to hitting there goal of over 150K sales per year worldwide.
The new 9-5 has some pretty decent reviews overall and they just signed a deal with BMW to use some of there engines in upcoming 9-3 and possibly a 9-2 built off of the Mini platform.
If Spyker can bring back some of its quirkiness (Spyker is quite quirky themselves, so that shouldnt be much of a problem), I see no issues with them at least winning their old fans back.

Production of the Saab 9-4X crossover began this week at a Mexican plant operated by Saab's former parent, General Motors Co.
U.S. sales will begin in May, with sales in Europe and other world markets scheduled to begin in August. The 9-4X is derived from the same platform as the Cadillac SRX, which is assembled in the same Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, factory.
The first vehicle, an Ice Pearl metallic Aero model with a 2.8-liter, V-6 turbocharged engine, is bound for a media test-drive event in the United States before being shipped to Sweden for display at the Saab car museum.
The development and launch of the 9-4X have been repeatedly delayed, but it will be a significant component of Saab Cars North America's U.S. sales and marketing efforts in 2011.
It is the first crossover in the Saab lineup since the 9-7X was dropped in December 2008 and gives the Swedish brand an entry in one of the industry's fastest-growing market segments.
Demand for the Cadillac SRX, BMW X5, Lexus RX and other premium crossovers jumped 25 percent last year, outpacing the U.S. market's overall gain of 11 percent.
Doubling, tripling U.S. sales
Saab Cars North America is forecasting U.S. sales of 15,000 to 20,000 vehicles this year.
Saab has never doubled or tripled sales year-over-year in the United States. The brand's largest percentage increase came in 1983, when Saab sold 43 percent more vehicles than in 1982.
Saab's sales have suffered since GM sold the company to Spyker Cars N.V. in February 2010. Saab sold 31,696 cars globally last year, down from 39,800 in 2009. In the United States, 2010 sales plummeted to 5,445 units from 8,680 the year before.
Saab has set a global sales goal of 80,000 units in 2011 and 120,000 units in 2012, when it also expects to post a profit for the first time in years.
The brand's top-selling year in the United States was 1986, when it sold 48,181 cars.
