Default Mazda creates a 4-door Essence

What you're looking at is the Mazda Shinari concept, a prototype of Mazda's new design language.

I immediately think Infiniti Essence. Oh, if only the production Infiniti M could have been closer to this.

I said it when it first debuted, the Essence could be confused with a Mazda, the design language is very similar. Both look good to me in concept. I am not a fan of the production cues on current Mazdas and on the new Infiniti M 37/56 and QX56. Something was lost in translation

The car above has a very long hood, V-8 or bigger maybe? That is a lot of room for a tiny Rotary engine

MILAN, Italy -- Mazda today unveiled the Shinari sports coupe, a four-door concept car that indicates the future design direction for the Japanese brand.

The concept will be on Mazda's stand at the Paris auto show in early October.

The coupe shows the future face of Mazda's family of vehicles -- an aluminum signature wing, the line that runs through the headlights and under the grille -- as well as the overall styling trend for future production models.

Inside, the Shinari is a four-seater with a cockpit design that clearly separates, rather than homogenizes, the driver and front passenger.

Mazda will use the word Kodo, Japanese for soul of motion, to describe its future design language.

Mazda executives declined to say when the new design would appear on production vehicles. However, "this design will lead to the next generation of Mazda design and will lead to other elements," said Ikuo Maeda, general manager of Mazda Motor Corp.'s design division, at a press event near Milan, Italy.

Mazda's design studios in the U.S., Germany and Japan collaborated to create the look of the Shinari.

The design language was created through a collaboration involving Mazda's styling studios in the United States, Germany and Japan.

Mazda also said it is working to improve the quality level of its interiors for future vehicles.

"We want to play in the same group as BMW and Audi," said Derek Jenkins, director of design for Mazda North America. "On fit and finish we want the same level of quality."

Absolutely stunning, and I do agree - this is what the M should have been!

Well done!

Looks Jaguar XJ-ish (the profile, the headlights), with a bit of BMW Grandsport with the high rear deck.

It will be great to see how they tone this down into a production model...

Looks like they put a Mazda badge on the gorgeous Fisker Karma.

they could shorten it, make it two doors, and it could go against the A5, 6 series and E coupe

Nice, if only something similar makes it into production.

i like these coupe style sedans.

only problem is small trunk space.

I really hate that lexus doesn't use fold down rear seats.

That's nice. Hope the design language makes it to future Mazda's. This could also be a cool entry into the Luxury/Sport upscale makes. Perhaps a new division to take on Infiniti

Absolutely stunning. Would make a gorgeous Mazda 6 with a slightly higher roof and production-ready details.

Thank goodness they are finally dumping the silly and immature smiley face styling. This new theme has sales written all over it, even though the grille is a copy of the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and the main body flows just like the Fisker Karma.

That's really beautiful and could easily pass for a Jaguar.

it's a concept any production car won't look like this from Mazda. The Panamera lost soeme sexiness to be useful the rear had good headroom and the trunk has room for 4 suitcases.

showing concept cars like this to the public is a huge waste of time and money IMO and only sets up the public to be disappointed by the 'production' version (if it ever comes).
