Four people were killed early Thursday when a sports car crashed near Van Nuys airport, police said.

The yellow 2007 Chevy Corvette was traveling at high speeds when it hit a guard rail on Roscoe Boulevard shortly after midnight, said Officer Gregory Baek of the Los Angeles Police Department. The car skidded several hundred feet, crossed some railway tracks and came to rest upside down, he said.

The bodies of two men and a woman were found scattered around the car, he said. It was not immediately clear whether they were passengers or pedestrians.

A fourth body, found pinned inside the vehicle, was believed to be that of the driver, Baek said. He could not say whether it was a man or a woman.

The crash left car and body parts scattered along a half-mile stretch of Roscoe Boulevard, according to news reports from the scene.

Police closed Roscoe Boulevard between Hayvenhurst Avenue and Balboa Boulevard. The crash was not expected to delay Metrolink, Baek said.

Corvettes have high insurance policies for a reason.

My condolences to the family and friends of those who were killed, although, of course, we don't know (yet) who they are.

It's possible (even likely) that at least 2 of them were pedestrians.

If I had to take a guess I would have to say they were all in the car, that stretch of road at most times of the day has no pedestrians, let alone at that time of night. There are no homes or apartments near by and its mostly industrial, bordered by the van nuys airport, railroad tracks, and hangers.

Tragic, but with all of the Vettes on the road and it's a relief that you don't hear about more accidents like this.

Tragic event, especially if innocent people were some of the victims.

The driver may have been drinking, authorities said.

Me too...I used to work as an insurance adjuster when I was younger...ive seen/heard of some nasty accidents. It made me more aware of my driving habits...ever since, I have become a better driver-at least I like to think so

This accident in particular is pretty bad. Unfortunate.
