True, but it's probably the world's largest single new-car market, although China is gaining rapidly. And even if the 80,000 world-wide sales figure is correct, that's not a lot of vehicles, world-wide in the 2 years since it was introduced. The Ford F-150, for example, not long ago, was selling almost that many trucks in one month. Camrys and Accords were selling that many in 2 months.

No matter how you look at it, the X6 has not been what most auto analysts would call a marketing success. The X4 might (?) do a little better, since it doesn't cost as much as an X6, and people won't have to shell out quite so much for questionable styling. But I wouldn't bet the monthly rent on it.

^^ Agreed and from what I've read the top 2 markets for BMW are Germany and the US.

There's nothing wrong with sport wagons. There IS something wrong with travesties such as the 5GT, X6, and (potentially) X4. But don't sully the good name of true sport wagons such as the 3- and 5-series wagons, A4 and A6 Avant, etc. etc.

If it looks like this rendering below, then I will have to get rid of the X3 to make room for this X4 The X6 is too big for a single male like myself..

I guess in the same vein, the LX would be considered a sales disaster for Lexus.

Nope. The LX has always been a limited production vehicle and it starts at 75k-85k with only one V-8 and only as a 4x4. A very limited market.

BMW stated they wanted 20k X6 to be sold and I guess they hit that worldwide as sales here have been around 400-700 units a month.

I consider the BMW x3 a total failure, x4 would be the same in my eyes, but the only bmw that I would ever consider purchasing would actually be the x6.

Though neither of them seem to sell (at least in my area) in large numbers, the biggest problem, as I see it, with LX sales is its own Toyota Land Cruiser brother. The Land Cruiser offers the same quality, virtually the same interior plushness, and the same veraatility and of-road cabability at a lower price. I reviewed a Land Cruiser (by CL request) not long ago, and was highly impressed with it. There is little reason, IMO, to spend the extra cash on the LX (and both of these vehicles cost a lot of $$$$$$), except for the trick-adjustable suspension height.

The X3 has done pretty well in my Washington, D.C. area. But I agree with you that, with the X3 and X5 now established in the American market, there seems to be little potential market for an X4 that would slot in between.

If you aren't B.S.-ing us about being truly interested in an X6, then get out your checkbook and go shopping. In the U.S. market, this vehicle, for the most part, just sits on BMW lots, and dealers can't get rid of them (and they probbly don't keep many in stock). You can bet the monthly rent they'll be willing to deal.

But, with the X6, also consider depreciation and potential resale value. You might get a great deal now, but later on is when the vehicle's unpopularity could (?) come back to bite. If you decide, in a few years, that you want something else, you're probably not going to be able to re-sell it at the drop of a hat, nor get much of a trade-in allowance for it.

X6 is doing rather well up here too ... I could definitely see a market for an X4 here too.

Though I wonder if the X4 would compete with the 5GT.

Well there isn't any market for the Infiniti EX which has been a giant failure and unless the BMW badge means that much not sure why this would sell over it.
