I will be sad to see the brand go because I think they have the best interior of any car made and I would love to one day have owned a 62S for a driver to take me to and fro in. (Aw dreams).
I do think the exterior was a little dated, considering they were enhanced (restyled) versions of the last generation S class. It was only a matter of time before the 1 car they have (2 engine choices and 2 lengths and a convertible for a total of 5 variations) would eventually run its course with those who have/can afford them.
For the money a S65 AMG is a much better value, the Maybach's interior alone can't justify twice the price of the S65.(and worse, the Maybach is based on the previous generation S-class).
I'm not a fan of the current S-class exterior styling, but still better than the Maybach's, so I won't really miss it ...

I find it to be a fine ultra luxury car, and I think price should be a moot point. At that level, nobody cares about price. The average liquid net worth of people buying maybachs, rolls royces, etc. is $25 million. The average total net worth is $30 million (source: forbes.com, i'm too lazy to find the exact article).
When you have $25 million in liquid net worth plus whatever behemoth disposable income you're likely making per month, the price doesn't matter so much.
I never buy this "oh it's a more expensive S class but the greater expense is not justifiable" type argument. Hell, that's what people have been screaming about the LF-A for the past months and it's equally as absurd.
I say judge the car for what it is. It's far far far superior to the S class in terms of interior luxury (yeah, i'm looking at you too BMW 7 and Lexus LS)
Exterior aesthetics are completely arbitrary. If you like it, you like it. I happen to like it, although I personally think the fact that the mercedes S class looks so similar detracts from the exclusivity of the Maybach.
