Post Rendered Speculation: Porsche 928 successor

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/18/r...928-successor/

If all the rumors, wishes and Internet chatter about a new Porsche 928 can actually make the car happen, we are all for it – there are few automobiles we miss as lustily as the 1992-1995 928 GTS. We do know that Porsche has seven new models in the works and a 928 successor could be one of them, but until we have something more substantial to go on it looks like we're in for a slew of crowd-sourced renderings.

The above is from Teamspeed forum member Wildspeed, who's done a thorough job of melding Panamera and early 928 cues with a bit of flourish around the front wheel wells. If it comes in a manual version we'll consider it. You can have a better look at it in the high-res image and let us know what you think of Wildspeed's 928 and the GT's speculators in Comments.

I think it is pretty cool, kind of like a pod-racer-ish look. Would I be spotted in one? nah...

That digitally edited image looks great. I mean I've always had a soft spot for the Porsche's with "a bonnet" and the 928 looked ahead of its time from a design point of view, in my opinion of course.

I loved the old 928 - especially the latest generation with the wrap around tail lights.

I'm not feeling anything with that rendering though - proportions are all wrong or somethin...

I like 928s, but that photoshop reminds me of the old Hyundai Tiburon .

Not feeling that rendering. The 928 should not resemble a Panamera or just a sleeker 2 door Panamera. That rendering basically looks just like a 2 door Panamera with some 928 cues thrown in. If that is all they are going to do then that is lazy designing and they should just call it a Panamera coupe instead of a 928. If Porsche is going to do a proper 928 it should have its own unique styling, own look, and be a totally separate model, just because it is based on a Panamera chassis does not mean it has to be styled like it. People and reviewers generally don't like the Panamera design so why would they try to duplicate it.

If this thing's going to based off the Panamera...

it's gonna be pretty big isn't it?
