VW downgrades their warranty to 3/36 from 4/50!?!?!?!

Interesting. The last new VW's I reviewed, here on the East Coast, if I remember correctly, were 4/50 drivetrain, too. But...if you are correct, so be it.
Well, either way, it really doesn't matter now, IF you consider that the 5/60 and 3/36 are now in line with most other lower-priced makes. As some posters have noted, however, VW's have a lot of electrical problems, so that warranty will probably be needed, even if it is only 3/36.

I know the DSG is a good tranny, my wife's TT 2.0T has it.

I may not be able to do both trannies at once, however, as many VW shops don't keep a lot of GTIs in stock. If not, I'll do one at a time as conditions allow....and just update the review as necessary.

I think it really depends on the luck of the draw when it comes to getting a VW. Either you luck out and get something of a gem that rarely has problems, or you get a lemon that's so aggravating you swear you'll never buy another VW. Same seems to be true with Audi.
My father's Jetta Sportwagen TDI has had absolutely zero problems since he purchased it last June, and he told me the last time he was so happy with a car purchase was back when he had his old '79 Toyota Corona, which he drove until it rusted out.
Granted, that's not a long time yet, but from the comments you tend to read here and elsewhere, his VW should have short circuited, fallen apart, caught on fire and exploded by this point.

woops just realized they downgraded the warranty. I initially thought the thread was about VW increasing the length of the warranties..
This is a mistake, especially in a market where GM and Hyundai are doing 100k warranties

I almost didnt buy my 2006 Jetta 2.0T/GLI when it was new due to all of the negative hype on the internet. (I have owned Toyota, Honda, Nissan etc). I purchased it over a 2006 TSX and dont regret a day that I did.
Its been very reliable (No better or worse than any other brand I have owned), loads of fun to drive and it appears to hold its value well as its worth more than what the buyout was. All of this is the reason why I bought out the lease in November. I know others will have different stories but the VW's made today are nothing like the ones in the 90's that everyone still seems to refer to when it comes to reliability IMO.
