to me, the most impressive part of sonata is the weight. when new models come out, it usually gains 100lb - 200lb or so. but this went on a diet and lost 200lb. Fully-loaded with the automatic, sunroof and navigation is 3,316 lbs.

It's not my favorite car, but I see it as a big improvement over the last Sonata with plenty of room in the rear and trunk for those that need it. Somewhat CC-like, and with the CC outselling the Passat in the US which is interesting, one can speculate on the sales success of the new Sonata. Fuel efficiency seems to be gaining importance in this segment which doesn't hurt.

The Passat barely even exists in the US market anymore. It's models and options have been cut down, and it's just a vehicle that does not appeal to the US market, which is why it will soon be replaced by a new midsize VW made specifically for the US market.

the fact that this thread is 14 pages already means the car is a success.

By that logic, the Acura ZDX would have been a smash hit by now .

ZDX thread was 6 pages of big-*** ugliness or something. Sonata thread is up to 14 pages for the win and will easily outsell it.

Success? Just try adding up all the Internet posts about the Pontiac Aztek.

Did the internet exist during the Aztek's production run? I know it's OT but it is as ugly as ZDX thing.

I agree that the new Sonata will probably outsell the ZDX, but that is just as much because of the ZDX itself, not necessarily the new Sonata's brilliance.

The ZDX, while well-built like most Honda/Acura products, is, in some ways, a joke. The rear roofline is so low that even some kids have problems getting in and out (I saw this first-hand at the D.C. Show last week....and you should have seen ME trying to get in and out). The Acura reps there, themselves, admitted the vehicle is basically a 2-seater, with a back seat for packages or small children only.

Yes, very much so (just ask Al Gore, who invented it ). And the Aztek, at the time, was (arguably) the most-criticized vehicle in the American market for ugliness.

Yeah but I do believe the Aztek was ugly on purpose whereas Acuras and the ZDX are not. They actually THINK they look good

Back to the Sonata .... Specs are looking GREAT to me.

First two commercials are pretty well done.

The "luxury" one IMHO is quite arrogant and pretentious.

The last two are average.

Nice walkaround, too bad it was the Limited.

I am anxiously waiting too see what a base Sonata looks like.
