Looks like the engine wanted to jump out of the frame...

Police should have had a car a mile or so back to warn drivers.

The driver in the video didnt even bother to stop and see if he could help. Punk. He just cruises buy and once he passes the wreckage he just nails it.

looks like there were EMTs and plenty of other cars on scene already. He'd just get in their way of extracting the driver.

I am more surprised to see no warning signs for the drivers coming into that section of the track. The car's brakes should be amazing to slow down the car in that distance.

Wow!

I'd love to know the specifics and speed of the crash. The track was destroyed for a very long stretch. Amazing that the driver survived...definitely a testament to the safety improvements of modern vehicles.

I would like to also. I am pretty sure it was probably somewhere in the mid 100's. Roll cages save lives.

The rule on the Nürburgring during sessions - as it should be on any open track, for that matter - is stop only when necessary. Stopping on a racetrack during open session is a terrible idea regardless of the circumstance, as it puts your safety and the safety of other drivers at extreme risk.

If you watch the video, the collision probably occurred on the Nür straight, at the slight left bend near Antoniusbuche heading into Tiergarten. This is of course all speculation, but I find it hard to believe that the Mini that the M3 crashed into was traveling anywhere near speed; I think it's likely that the Mini was being driven by an inexperienced driver lacking knowledge of the course, so had slowed down far too much to take this slight left bend.

An estimation of M3 speed at time of collision as somewhere near the mid-100s is probably accurate, even for an E36. Mero in the ZR1 during the record time run took the bend at nearly 180mph. It's good that the driver survived.

By the way, I had thought that during public sessions, the cars typically enter near Antoniusbuche... has this changed recently?
