This car is mainly for the JDM market, and some neighboring Asian markets. The Toyota Mark has a huge following and history/heritage in Japan and neighboring countries. The ES is not sold in Japan anyways.

Lexus ES = Toyota Windom in Japan(& a few other markets) for the first 4 generations, until the ES350 came out in 2006, but no ES350 offered in Japan ...
These cars look so much alike up front down to wheel design.. Wow! I can see this as the next GS more than ever now..
I'm still puzzled when it was mentioned that the new Mark X would be going against the 5-series (in Japan and probably a few Asian countries). That's what the Toyota Crown is for.
The Mark X (just like its predecessor relatives like the Mark II, Verossa and Cressida) is more pitted for the 3-series and similar vehicles.
Unfortunately even I'm still confused with all of this
