B/C people buy BMWs no matter what. BMW is keenly aware of this so why not sell anything you can badged BMW. I think its a smart move from a sales standpoint.
Looking at the 1 series, it really hasn't done anything to damage the BMW reputation here, though they were smart not sending us the feeble engines and the 3/5 door hatches.

The 1 Series has not damaged BMW's reputation, but the 0 Series if it actually comes out just might.

Judging from all the negative comments here the 0 series could only damage the reputation of BMW in the status-conscious United States of America. I understand this.
But Europeans and the rest of the world react differently to such cars. Small premium cars are acceptable, have been for some time now. I recently drove the BMW 1 series and I was very impressed. This is an extremely fun vehicle and the only car in its class with a RWD layout - one of its selling points by the way (especially for the purist / enthusiast driver). And the 1 series wasn't even cramped on the inside. I felt more comfortable inside it than in my sisters Lexus IS250, which feels like a sardine can in comparison. Granted, the rear seats of the 1 series is going to be tight if the driver is a big guy and has the front seat pushed somewhat rearward, but as a car for a small family with young children it is perfectly suitable in my opinion.
I believe Mercedes sells their trucks and buses in Japan (another extremely status-conscious market) and it hasn't done anything to damage the reputation of the brand (most likely because it is known that this company has been producing such vehicles since the early 20th century). Volvo is another brand, albeit semi-premium, that sells their trucks in Asia and this has done nothing to hamper their acceptance as a "premium" brand.
I personally wouldn't have a problem with the 0 series. The most alarming issue here, if it is true, is the FWD layout of this car. In general it isn't a big deal but to us enthusiasts it is difficult to accept. A FWD BMW? Yikes.
