Wow! That didn't take long.

Buick has made some improvements, but are nowhere near Tier 1 luxury.
Tier 1 = Audi, BMW, Lexus and MB.

Guess it all depends on a person's perspective of what "luxury" is?
A fully loaded Accord or Camry could be luxury to some? ....or a Buick?

It's a tweener really. Ford goes Ford -> Mercury -> Lincoln and GM goes Chevy -> Buick -> Caddy. It's a step above the mainstream brands, but it's not quite the company's luxury brand. Now with Caddy going the sportier route and Buick going to comfy luxury route they may both be luxury brands but I haven't had any seat time in a new Buick to really know if it's a full fledged luxury car just yet.

I currently perceive it as a small step underneath Lincoln and Acura. Call them Tier 2.1, maybe? Most definitely a solid step up from Chevy and Toyota.

If they added one more competitive model more expensive than the LaCrosse and included luxury grade dealer service then it'd be above Lincoln and Acura IMO.

Buick has been far behind the loop for a good thirty years. GM should have dumped them over Oldsmobile. It will be interesting to see how the new models do, but I don't have my hopes up.

Top-level versions of Buicks, such as the Lucerne CXL/Super and Enclave CXL are borderline luxury vehicles, but probably not as much now as as in the past. Buick, as a luxury car, probably reached its peak with the 1969-70 Electra 225 (I'm sure you remember it, like I do), and, to a lesser extent, the early 90's Roadmaster Limited, but, of course that was a long time ago.

Yes, "borderline" is the best description I've heard in a while for these marginal cars. Current lineup consists of mediocre/dated cars regardless of the subjective categories. Nice flashback to 1969-70 though.

If the ES, TL, MKZ, A4 etc. are considered entry level luxury cars, the Lucerne and new Lacrosse could be considered entry level luxury too.

"borderline" ........ as much as an Avalon is a "borderline" luxury car.

Buick has taken a dip into the fountain of youth & will change perceptions with the onslaught of products.. I would say yes to Buick being a luxury brand.. Just wait until the new GM TT V6 arrives this fall.. Perhaps a convertible & coupe based on the upcoming Caddy CTS to be called the Electra ? Watch out!
