Default Our new cruiser: Toyota MR2-Spyder!

The wife and I have been trying to find a fun little roadster for quite a while. We wanted it to be small and agile, fun (though not necessarily fast), and frugal (with an automatic being a prime criteria because of my wife's insistence). Took us about 6 months to find the perfect one searching through Miatas, Z3s, and the like before we came to our 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder SMT. Fun little car that corners like crazy (almost as sharp as my older Evo IV RS) and is a blast with the top off! The SMT is a joy to play with (almost like playing Gran Turismo) and is easy to learn. Cowl shake is minimal (and actual rides better than comparable year Miatas) and although there's very little luggage room, we had enough to go to Costco and Safeway on a quick grocery run - gotta love the look when people see you loading food into the front "hood" of the car.

btw> Why are used Bimmers so cheap? Found several 03' 323/325/328 for around $13k only, off a known good authorized BMW dealership. Even 325ci convertibles can be had for around $16k....strange given the new prices on them.

How many miles on the BMWs? I hear when they are over 50K miles, thats when things go wrong. Maybe thats why they are cheap. So with that purchase, you'll probably spend the rest taking your car at the dealer and get something fixed.

I've always like the MR2 Spyder.

I just never could fit in it comfortably...

has around 60k-65K miles typically, which is fairly low (10k/year)....

had a 2000 mr2 spyder... loved it! loved it! loved it!

it was just so damn impractical to have as your only car...

it has just enough trunk space to put in a loaf of bread... couldn't get out of my own parking space with even a threat of snow...

cornered awesome!
great gas mileage
soft top ripped due to faulty mechanism (got replaced under warranty)
crappy stereo
fun, fun, fun!

congrats on your funmobile! hopefully that's not your only ride.

$13k for a 6-7 years old BMW 3-series sounds normal. Most 03 ES/GS, etc go for about that price, if not $1k higher.

Time flies I tell you.

The RAV4 next to it is one of our other cars (my daily commuter), as well as our Lexus.

I've always liked the last generation MR2. I almost considered it.

I like your signature. Isn't it from Snoop Dogg's first song from the Doggystyle album?

Congrats.

I was always a little disappointed that they never brought this car to Canada....thought it would be a fun, summer toy.
