While I do not like the 3RX front end much, I find the car completely better than the 2RX everywhere else. I do find the 2RX more cohesive in design overall. The 3RX blows it away with its upscale feel and incredible interior design. 30MPG for the 450h. Nothing is close, that is spectacular.

I will say the LX 570 underwhelmed me tons, blah looks..few colors, options and pricey...

My list coming soon.

Personally, I feel the 3RX is certainly more cohesive than the 2RX, despite some people on CL not agreeing with this. When you look at the details, the subtle points of the car, you can really see it.

The 3RX has no visible exhaust or rear windshield wiper, which makes it look more cohesive and futuristic than the 2RX. The exterior to me in general looks more cohesive, especially in RX hybrid trim.

Styling aside, the 3RX does indeed blow away the 2RX in almost every way.

Ford's 3rd and 4th generation Taurus would be near the top of my list of disappointing redesigns. The 3rd gen with it's jelly bean design would end up being a fleet queen and the 4th gen didn't really improve much.

So far the 3RX's exterior design have been 50/50. Most agree the interior looks more upscale and the seats are much better. Is it a better SUV overall, I am not so sure. Lexus made gains in some area but lost grounds on others. If the 3RX can even match the sales numbers of the 2RX, then it have already succeeded.

Agree completely on comments about the ovoid third generation Taurus. I good case of overuse of a single design motif (the oval). As mmarshall said, it was ovals everywhere.

Another vote for the TL from me too. The last TL was fabulous and still looks hot. The new on is a prop from a bad sci-fi movie. I mourn the old TL's passing.

Also the transition from the second generation ES300 to the grandma third generation ES. I loved the second generation ES300. I hated the follow up.

And I would add the current Infiniti G coupe. No matter how many ways I see the current car it just doesn't have the refined proportions and assertive stance of the old G35 coupe.

Really....the LX570 is exactly what it should be. It leads the class right now..however the whole class is not really all that strong.

I would say the Acura TL and SC430. Acura totally messed up the new TL. I will always love the old SC400 & 300.

Hmm, I love both SC400 and SC430. They are just too different to be even directly compared. If anything, Lexus should've kept making SC400 as a non convertible coupe, and SC430 should've been a separate model.

[QUOTE=mmarshall;4832930]OK, then.....I'll give you some older, disappointing cars and re-designs (and skip most of the 1970's, because we all know that was a lousy decade).

The 1969 full-size Plymouths, Dodges, and Chryslers were total garbage, quality-wise compared to their 67-68 predecessors....and the 67-68 models weren't as well-built as the 65-66 models.

I have had 6 dodge vehicles..for some reason i like them...but in the back of my mind.I know they are not the best... there power plants have always been a notch below Chevy's...but there muscle cars back in the late 60's early seventies were cool. Cool colors and graphics....And something about there engine displacements 340/383/318/440 make me happy

I grew up with those cars, back in high school (graduated in '70). Yes, some of the Chrysler products back then had dynamite looks, graphics, and paint colors (especially for 1970), but some of them were also woefully deficient in fit/finish, assembly quality, and reliability (though most of the engines and TorqueFlite automatic transmissions were durable and lasted a long time). That's why some auto-restoration shops dislike working with the vintage Chrysler muscle-cars from the late 60's/early 70's....their poor-quality sheet metal and interiors.

My previous comment, though, as regards the question Och posed about some of the older disapponting redesigns, concerned, specifically, the redesign of the full-size MoPars for 1969 (Fury, Polara, Monaco, Newport, New Yorker, 300, etc...), which, quality-wise, took a huge nose-dive from the much better 67-68 models.....that was not the case with all Chrysler products that year. Their competitors, the full-size GM models, were to take a somewhat similiar, but not quite as bad, nose-dive in material quality from 1970-71.

I have to disagree, though, with the statement that MoPar powertrains, back then, were inferior to Chevies. Not only were they MORE durable than typical Chevy/GM powertrains in longevity, but, in some cases, could also outrun them from 0-60 and in the quarter-mile. HemiCudas and Challengers, for example, could hold their own against the classic 427 triple-deuce Corvettes, and even the relatively small-engine 340 Dusters/Darts could keep up with or exceed comparable-engine Chevies. The only really crappy component in Dodge/Plymouth drivetrains back then was the standard 3-speed manual transmission...it was a piece of garbage. And, if you didn't get the power-front-disc-brake option, the non-power drum brakes were even worse than the 3-speed tranny.....far below those of Ford and GM.

The 3RX was also disappointing for me. It is just me but the 2RX's interior and exterior was miles better it looked sportier and younger. The 3RX looks like an older version that gained a lot of weight. I wish the redesign was more daring.

2010 Lexus RX: Horrible front end, polarizing (and to me) unattractive interior.
2010 Nissan Maxima: It's an attractive design, I just prefer the previous generation
2009 Honda Pilot: The 1st generation Pilot was handsome, the current generation is horrible.
