10. Benz E63 Wagon
9. Benz SL roadster
8. BMW M5 sedan
7. Benz CL 65 coupe
6. Benz S63 sedan
5. Jeep SRT8
4. Benz ML 63
3. Benz G55
2. Ford F 350 and 450
1. Dodge Ram 3500
I mean more expensive cars will cost more to keep running and its no secret German cars will break down. Not sure what Forbes is saying here.

With the exception of #1 and #2, that is my dream car list. I would pick any one of those out of a hat to drive and be happy...that is, until the repair bills!
Guess you gotta pay to play!

"To compile our list of "hidden clunkers," we used data from Vincentric, an auto-industry analysis firm based in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. We added the five-year costs of fuel, repairs and maintenance for model-year 2009 vehicles, eliminating any vehicles with production fewer than 500 units per year. We did not factor in rates of depreciation, since expensive cars depreciate at a faster and proportionately greater rate, effectively skewing our results toward super rides like the Audi R8 and BMW M6."
Sounds like voodoo science to me.

Trying to say...
Isn't it obvious, don't buy big engined German vehicles because they depreciate a lot and are not reliabe, and also don't buy American trucks either....
But really, something that's over $80K and in no means will become a "classic" vehicle over time, will depreciate much more than a vanilla $20K vehicle like say a Civic.
Look at how fast and much that the LS's depreciate over time... makes them very appealing vehicles in the CPO/Used car market.

Why would anyone trade in an old clunker for a new clunker?

Some swanky clunkers, but the point is pretty clear here.
And Mercedes is well aware of it's reputation for (un) reliability (even if they don't discuss it openly). It's very apparent when you look at the engineering and reliability testing that went into the all new, current gen C-class. But I question if they will stick to the new program with the introduction of new models. Time will tell.
