what's the norm for tint removal charge... I got charged 100 bucks, and had new tint installed for 150. I had to do this b/c I got pulled over. what BS... wasted 250 for not thing...
I was thinking of having mine done a bit darker but I am concerned about the defroster lines for the rear window. Are the defroster lines inside the glass or still on the surface like my 20 year old prelude from college
$100 is about the normal. Where did you get pulled at? What I normally do when I get pulled is pull the cover back to the sun roof, which lets in a little more light inside of the car and the tint does not look as dark. LOL! BTW, I have been running a 20% tint for 3 years now and I rarely get pulled; even in PG county.

I'm going to make a guess that they are still on the surface, hence the slight distortion of the tint on lines at night through rear window. If I were you if tint is looking good, leave it alone.

Take a Hefty garbage bag & cover all the tint you want to remove by squirting windex on the tint & sticking the Hefty bag to it. Start car & turn heat on high wait about 15 minutes & peel off the tint easily. Use a razor blade to clean off any leftover adhesive. I would do it for $70

Defroster lines are on the inside of the rear windows. This, essentially, makes tinting the rear window on any Lexus a tinter's nightmare b/c it takes so much more time, than normal, to make sure that it gets done correctly.

i had 20% illegal tints on all my cars (approx 20yrs in DC metro area)... but this jerk off cop pulled me over driving in HOV and thought I was alone... then he saw my wife in the back seat and said... hummm i'm pulling you over for tint...i was like BS dude, you pulled me over for HOV. He had not thing to say. I said you cops never admit when your wrong.
its really easy to do yourself. I used a $50 clothes steamer I have. Just blast it for a few minutes and you can peel it right off in one piece if you go slowly. I used Goof Off for any residual glue that was left over.

So let me get this straight - he had a legit (or what he thought was legit) reason for pulling you over, and then when he inspected the vehicle as he is legally required to do before letting you go, it's his fault you had illegally tinted the windows too dark? Interesting...
Not saying I'm perfect, mang, far from it, but you rolled the dice for 20 years by your own admission, and that translates to about $12 a year. Now you're legal, and now you shouldn't ever have that problem. Not a bad deal.
