Default Would you pay extra insurance to mod your car?

i understand the concept, you don't want to encourage reckless driving, speeding, etc, etc. but increased premiums for having window tint? bodykit? that's taking things too far!

I do on my motorcycle.

I have extra $3k coverage for mods, over the Blue Book value of my bike.

So, even if my bike is worth about $8k, I'm insured for $11k, and my bike won't be totalled unless if damages are over $7k...

the link is a bit too much, but overall i don't mind paying a bit extra for mods, coz' basically they "add" values to the car if they have to fix it

That's an important point, if you are in an accident, your car is badly damaged or totalled, and it is the other guy's fault. If your car, with mods, for any reason, is worth more than standard KBB (Kelley Blue Book), you may have to negotiate or fight with the other person's insurance claims representative to get the added cost of repairs or replacement. That happened to a friend of mine with a modded Honda CRX that got rear-ended....he had to fight and hold out for the added value, but got it.

I agree, if you ever have the unfortunate situation of being paid off by an insurance company, negotiate. Never accept the first offer and be prepared with documentation/receipts, etc. I have 2 friends that received higher payoffs as the result of their persistence and good documentation.

never had to negotiate. my gs400 was hit, body kits replaced, no questions asked by other party's insurance. gs400 got hit a 2nd time (talk about luck), same thing, no questions asked.

my sc430 rear ended, didn't want to wait for the other insurance. went through ours and then our insurance claimed the other party. body kits all replaced, total bill 6k. no hassle at all.

of course i am sure it has to do with insurance company and adjusters, but guess i am on the lucky side. however, i do not agree that aftermarket parts make it harder to negotiate. i know so many friends who don't know as much about cars (thus not as firm), and they have tough time negotiating with insurance companies on their STOCK cars
