The Chevy Volt Deathwatch continues... today we've found out via Automotive News that the Department of Energy has put a hold on the $10.3 billion in taxpayer money (http://priuschat.com/news/after-gove...6-bln-build-it) I told you about a couple of weeks ago that GM requested in order to finish the Volt and its underlying technology. The money is being held up due to GM's inability to pass a "financial viability test in order to simply survive."

And so the Chevy Volt Deathwatch continues...

You have to wonder - if the US Gov't instead took that $2.6B and said, $10K to $20K of Tax Credit towards ANY American branded car.

*versus*

$2.6B to build only 20,000 units of Volt, and GM still does not make any profit ?

 

I wonder how much they have spent on advertising for this thing.

 

hell...doesn't even have to be any American car could be just any car in America and that would get the economy going.

 

yep as long as you can buy American made Accords and Camry's I'd be for it.

If the expected selling price, even at a loss, is still in the $40K+ range for the Volt it isn't just GM that has financial viability issues, it's the Volt.

 

"Who killed the electric car II" will be due for release Summer 2010.

 

What a joke. I wouldnt give a squirt of **** to save GM if they were on fire
