Car "Warranty"
So I'm guessing a lot of people have gotten these calls. The 'this is your last chance to get car warranty.'
I got a new number a couple weeks ago, only because its such an easy number. I knew that I would be getting random calls from te contacts of the previous phone number, but I gess he/she had good relations with the car 'warrant' people! They love to call me. Ilook up the number on google and I do see the websites that say its a spoofed number.
Anyone as lucky as me to get these phone calls? What can I do to stop them from calling besides not picking up?

did any of you buy your car at a Penske owned dealership? Longo or stevens creeke
I think some douchebag at the dealerships may have sold our info for some extra cash.

these maggots want your VIN number
i don't know what they can do with that. spoof your car?
if you try to talk to them, they hang up on you. and there's no one on the other side if you ask to speak with a rep
this sucky economy has all the leeches coming out of the woodwork

This is a problem taking place on a bigger scale. If you do some research on google, for example, you'll find at least 2 major phone companies are tied up in battles with these scams and the customer complaints they've caused. Thousands of people are getting these calls, regardless of whether or not they're on a "do not call list", on a cell or business phone, or otherwise.

yeh i got a call from these people all the time.. i don't mind it, but when you're calling up my cell phone and wasting my minutes that's something else...
one time i pick up by mistake and some girl was talking to me, asking if i were interested.. i told her, since she already wasted a minute from my bill.. i'll waste another minute if she put on a sexier voice and make a meaningful convo instead.. she refused and said she'll take my number off the list...... darn....

If I'm not busy I chat with them for as long as I can keep them going on the phone with me to waste their time. When they press to buy today then I'll tell them honestly I don't even own a car due to a series of DUI issues and something about running into the front of a 7-Eleven store and spring the 'do you cover mopeds?' question on them.
Telling them to add you to their don't call me back list doesn't help. Their numbers are all spoofed and you can't get them via *69, etc.

One of the classic scams is the 1-800-816-1204 phone number and the "Warranty" company based in St. Peters, MO (they go by several different names). If you guys get anything from this firm, either by phone or mail (I've gotten both) just toss it...it's a scam.
Don't bother complaining to the FCC or the Do-Not-Call list enforcers. They usually send back some excuse that they can't take any action because of some excuse or "not enough info" was provided. Also, some of those Caller ID phone numbers are scrambled and actually come into the country from outside U.S. borders, so they are beyond the reach of the FCC or the Do-Not-Call system anyway.
