50,000 Pre-Orders for 2010 Mercedes E-Class
here's article:
Mercedes has announced that they have received nearly 50,000 pre-orders for their redesigned 2010 E-Class sedan. The news couldn't have come at a better time as the brand's March sales declined 17.5 percent in the face of global recession and a lack of consumer confidence in regards to purchasing new vehicles.
Riding on a new chassis that boasts 30 percent more rigidity than the previous generation, the new E-Class features a modern exterior with aggressive styling as well as a thoroughly revised interior that comes packed with the latest technology.
Under the hood, the new sedan offers a variety of petrol and diesel engines. On the diesel side there is the 100 kW (136 hp) E 200 CDI, the 125 kW (170 hp) E 220 CDI, a more powerful E 250 CDI with 150 kW (204 hp) and 500 Nm of torque, as well as a six-cylinder E 350 CDI with 170 kW (231 hp). Among the petrol models being offered are the 135 kW (184 hp) E 200 CGI, the E 250 CGI with 150 kW (204 hp) and 310 Nm of torque, the six-cylinder E 350 CGI with 215 kW (292 hp) and the V8 powered E 500 with 285 kW (388 hp).
The new 2010 E-Class recently went on sale in Europe and US sales are expected to begin in July. In a few months, the company will also launch their high-performance E 63 AMG and the new 2010 E-Class coupe.

You CLEARLY need to be REMINDED the E-class is a TAXI-CAB. Thus tons of those orders are fleet sales. You also forget the fact the E class is Benz's best selling model and they will sell 500-600,000 ever generation. Its their bread and butter. Its a high volume model, a lot of pre-orders are expected.
Your comment towards the GS is called "baiting" which is not appreciated so please knock it off.
Let me also remind you the GS is NOT a taxi-cab and has no where near the plant capacity or sales goals of the E-class. There is no wagon, no F, no coupe etc.
Both cars are superb and great in their own ways.

i know the GS doesn't compare to the E-class in sales (maybe ES would be closer). But I do remember the GS having lot of hype and I was also selling Lexus (GS's) when the 3rd gen first came out, and they were selling like hot cakes at the time. It's a friendly question.
Don't assume I'm "baiting", as I too was also a proud GS owner myself (see my screen name)! The video on the website clearly states that E-class are taxi's in Europe, and is a very well known fact.

Dude, the GS and E class will probably NEVER have the same sales, EVER. The best year for the GS is around 32k sales here in America. The E-class doubles that.
The GS does not have the volume of the E-class, it will never have 50k pre-orders if
1. They might sell 50k worldwide
2. Its not a fleet car/taxi-cab
Its clear the standard(s) in this class are still the 5 and E-class. The GS has 3 engine choices, 350/450h (limited production) 460. The E class offers everything from 4 cylinders to huge 6.3 V-8s from diesels to coming hybrids.

Outside of the B and R class, imo, the E is MB weakest series except for the AMG version.

WOW....I have to say I am a bit suprised by this, the new design I felt is not as good as the old generation but yet they've already sold out an entire year worth of inventory before they even went on sale. Besides the ugly headlights I would be all over this new E.
