Consumer Reports names Top Picks for 2009
The Elantra's chassis, like the Corolla's, is clearly comfort-oriented rather than handling. Like the Corolla, it provides a smooth, quiet ride, by compact-car standards. It trumps the Corolla, of course, in its warranty coverage, and (IMO) in interior quality as well. I was also not impressed with the new Corolla's brakes.....they are some of the spongiest and least-effective I've tried on anything other then the notoriously poor GM full-size truck/SUV brakes. However, it is hard to fault the Corolla's drive train with the automatic, which, though somewhat wimpy in power, borders on seamless.
