Default Todays cars .... tomorrows classics

I was wondering what cars that have been produced over the past 20 years will be on the auction block being sold as classics in 20 years??? I know many will jump to the Ferrari's, Bugatti, etc. What I want to now is what cars you would like to buy as a classic in the future??? When you see shows like Barrett Jackson you see that a great deal of the sales are from customers who just want a ar that they loved or owned when they were growing up.

My choice would be to buy a 1986 prelude si. I had one in college and loved it so much. I have lots of great memories of that car. I think cars like the Supra TT, 300Z TT, Evo's, ans STI's will be the hot cars as classics for the gen X buyers . Who knows??? Only time will tell

the problem in the future is the electronics will be completely obsolete and very hard to replace. no one will remember the software.

a lot of cars we consider 'classics' today have NO electronics in them.

One factor is determining a future classic is limited sales volume, the M5 probably meets that criteria....

As of late, the S2000 will be. Possibly the last real Honda sports car made and since a new model is not coming, it will help.
The new CTS-V. With GM disbanding their performance arm, this car will be rare.
New ZR-1 as well for the same reason
Various AMG/M cars.
IS-F, for being the first
GT-R

Don't forget the Honda/Acura NSX, honda's stab at the super car catagory. I think the early models are just drop dead gorgeous. 3rd gen. RX-7 (FD3S) is another one.

Wish i could see an SC300 on Barrett Jackson... :P

European & American muscle tend to dominate the classic car auctions like a Barrett Jackson. I have yet to see a Japanese or korean car on the circuit.

Future classics imo..

Mustang GT500/Bullit/Mach1
C5/C6 Corvette
New Chevy Camaro
Dodge Viper
Mercedes AMG roadsters
Lotus Elise

Only 547 ever produced, so super clean GNX's are already selling north of $100k.

The problem with some of the cars mentioned is that their production numbers are too high for the car to be collectible, at least within the foreseeable future. That's the problem with M and AMG cars (since there's a ton of them), unless it's a rare car like the CLK Black, SLR, or Z8. I think you can look at the current rate of depreciation of these cars as an indication of future collectability.

I believe Sick is on the right track with the CTS-V and ZR-1. NSXs and Supras are already rare and are obvious choices. I think it'll be a long time before S2000s start increasing in value.

The GNX I do agree on, it was on of those unique vehicles. I also think a Pontiac Fiero might be an interesting one in the future. NSX is also a possibility the longer Honda takes on coming out with a new one.

Great chioces everybody, but here are some not mentioned.

Acura Integra Type R- Just try to find one that has not been stolen or wrecked, and with a orginal engine.

Corvette ZR-1- 1990-1995- The first big buck Corvette with DOHC, and engine devlopment by Lotus, went up to 405hp in last two years- very rare car.

Mustang Cobra R- Basically a race car for the street, devoid of luxuries and, very rare.

E30 BMW M3- Again very hard to find one not wrecked and very few were imported in the U.S.
