Ahhh yes I hate this problem. I've killed 3 of the transmissions in my GT-R's so I stopped by NASA and bought a rocket booster. Haven't blown a transmission since, but gas mileage sucks. On a bright note, I raced an F-16 out by Dobbins and pulled him by 3 cars and a wing

I am loving the jokes. Very funny man. I like the car lengths and a wing twist. Pretty funny

Not trying to pick on you. But several great sports cars are currently offered by Japanese companies:

Nissan GT-R
Nissan 370Z
Mazda MX-5 Miata
Mazda RX-8
Honda S2000
Lexus IS-F
Subaru Impreza WRX STI
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

These eight sports car include NA V8, turbocharged V6, turbocharged I4, NA V6, NA I4, turbocharged F4, rotary engine, AWD, RWD, four door, two door, soft or hardtop roadster, sedan, wagon, coupe, auto or manual or double clutch tranny, priced between $20k and $80k. And they are very reliable for daily use(except probably RX-8).

And that's coming from their fans and the company itself when they question the GTR's Nurburgring laptime (as an act of jealously as none of their cars then could come close to what Nissan had) when they can't even offer solid proof of such.

Really pathetic behavior from Porsche (who's the sore loser now ey?).

P.S.
With that said, it's gonna take a long time for me to regain my faith and trust in Porsche as a manufacturer of fast cars when others (incl. Nissan) can do the same thing WAY better IMHO.

Nissan GT-R still quick after neutered launch control update
February 5th, 2009

Nissan recently started rolling out a transmission control unit update to all GT-Rs in inventory to modify the car’s launch control programming in order to reduce stresses to the drivetrain. The new software affects the vehicle in two ways. It increases the maximum rpm the vehicle will allow at launch with the VDC on from the present 2,000 rpm to 3,000 RPM. It also decreases the maximum RPM the vehicle will allow at launch with the VDC off from the present 4,500 rpm to between 3,000 RPM and 3,500 RPM.

The update is optional for existing GT-R owners, and some of them are already going in for the update. One owner has already updated his bone stock car and quickly went out to the drag strip running an astounding 11.34 @ 120.85 MPH at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, Louisiana. With the updated launch control programming his GT-R was still able to blast off the line with a 1.69 60′ time, and we estimate his 0-60 MPH was probably in the low 3’s. It should be noted that the weather was optimal for this run, 38 degrees and low humidity, with a DA (Density Altitude) of negative 2145 feet, so don’t expect Nissan GT-Rs drag racing everywhere to perform this well.

Overall we think this is a good update for the GT-R, launching at 4,500 RPM in the GT-R produces a good amount of spin and wheel hop which can be detrimental to any drivetrain. While lowering the launch RPM to 3,500 probably induces a little bog from the start, the lack of spinning and wheel hop can make up for most of the lost time, while greatly reducing the stress and driveline shock.

Click on the link and picture below to view the timeslip data and picture. We have also included a video demonstrating a launch done without launch control using the new software and VDC on.

As long as you don't do what they've said you shouldn't do all along... launch without VDC.

Nissan F***up on the GT-R tran. issued by not covering warranty.

Majority of buyer for GT-R will abuse the car, because simply a sport car. Especially when Nissan promote to take GT-R do track. Nissan will view case by case whether they will "honor" the warranty. So that mean you gotta put out money for lawyers before Nissan cough out new tranny. If cost of lawyers fees > cost of new tranny...you got yourself a free tranny replacement.

The whole idea is to not abuse the tranny in the first place. That's why they adjusted the RMP in the software... so you still get quick launches without turning off the VDC and using launch control. Why is this so hard to understand?

Again, I think Nissan should be commended for dealing with this the way they have. I'm not going to go into why they have LC or why it voids the warrenty blah blah blah. I am sure the trannies are not blowing at the track, probably someone that can't drive

The GT-R continues to be amazing. The more I read and think about it, it shows how overpriced the European vehicles are.

Cough Cough..911 RMS leak....Cough Cough.......

I totally agree 1SICKLEX. Every time I think about the GTR, I smile. I never thought this car would do so well. This should make the German companies cringe.
