Help With Range Rover
This propably isnt the best place to ask this, but i trust the lexus community's opinion. I own a 98 gs400 that I love, but im looking for a luxury suv to drive daily and park the lex. I am thinking of a 97 - 2000 rang rover, but with that age it would have some miles on it. Im not scared to purchace a lexus with high miles, but I dont know how Rovers hold up. IF anyone know or has experience good or bad with them let me know.
I recently read that Range Rovers have the highest repair and maintenance costs of all luxury SUVs. I forget where I read it though...Kiplinger's or Road & Track...i unno. An 01+ RX300, FX45 or an Acura MDX get my votes. Part of me wants a Cayenne, though, too...
I knew a mother/daughter back in college that both drove matching Range Rovers. They blew their engines within 500 miles of each other with both having less than 30k miles. Of course, they may have never changed the oil so who knows?
Best friend has an 06 Range Rover HSE (I think that is the model) and he likes it so far. Only complaint I had was the rear sun shade for the sunroof rattles horribly at highway speeds. Not a huge problem, but funny as h*ll is the car makes a perfect fart noise when the heat clicks on. I was laughing histerically after hearing it because I could tell the noise came from my side of the car, yet I knew it was not me. He said, "Yeah, my car farts"

No, it's a great car - if you have another for all the times it's going to spend in the shop broken. (I can't take credit for that one, I read it as a review from an owner who might've been a former at that point.)

One of my sales guys had one for several months, and he went through at least 3 suspension air bags at about a grand a pop. It was pretty cool that the vehicle would raise and lower, until you figured that feature cost $3000 annually. He sold it after 8 or 9 months and took a major hit. That same guy now drives a Nissan.

Daily drive how many miles a day?? I definitely wouldn't want to put a range rover of that vintage (or maybe any vintage) through those kinds of rigors.
If you want something full size luxury, why not something like a 98-00 LX470?

You may luck out and geet a good one, but Rand Rover products, in general, aren't something you would want to roll the dice on. They are superb off-road (except for the small, car-based Freelander), but Consumer Reports consistantly ranks them at or near the bottom for overall reliability. Most people I know who work in the auto repair-buisness agree....they are a risky buy.

I would get a LX470, Land Cruiser or a 97 Lx450 or Land Cruiser.
Stay away from the Range Rover.

Daily Drive and Used Range Rover don't usually exist in the same sentence. I'd stay away from those like the plague.
How big of an SUV do you want? Truck-based or cross platform? Are you going to be off-roading or do you just want a bigger daily driver?
