i used to think that if there was a 2 or 3 lane freeway and there were 2 or 3 cars driving the exact same speed that it would back everything up.

I've see these same studies at least 10+ years ago. They also said something about a car that is stalled in traffic for a minute would cause a back log of traffic for 30 minutes, or something like that.
This is a very real issue and I've always known this theory. I've always dubbed it "stupid traffic" as it's caused buy one or two idiots. This, as opposed to actual rush hour traffic congestion.
Umm....the theory is all well and good....but where is the darn solution to fixing the problem? Now that would be great post.

It amazes me how many people think that slowing down requires breaking, I break as little as possible, basically only if it's actually required.

Can I tell you they probably spent more?
I am however not overly pleased that they decided to implicitly blame car A, if car A did the massive multipule lane change effectively then car B wouldn't have had to break, unless of course he too is one of these people who doesn't know to to just let off the gas.
