I think it's funny to see everbody saying "(The state I live in) is absolutely the worst!"

It's bad everywhere, and I've lived and driven all over the U.S. I'd like to see police actually cracking down on this kind of law-breaking (and yes, it is the law to "keep right except to pass") rather than on speeding or other less dangerous offenses.

In Germany if you don't move over on the Autobahn and someone rear-ends you, the accident is your fault. Needless to say, the drivers over there are much more courteous about this kind of thing.

I remembered reading that article when I was on break at work. Good stuff lol. Yeah I think it's bad everywhere. I've seen dudes out of no where just gets on the left lane and go slow for no apparent reason. LOL. Thinking to myself maybe he's gonna try and pass that next vehicle up. 3 minutes later, I look in my rear view mirror and see 15 cars trying to pass him up LOL. Yeah I don't understand people either. If you see 15 cars switching lanes trying to pass you up, you would think they would just move over. But that's not the case in Utah :P

The words 'move over' -- even if readable in the rearview mirror -- may not mean much to them, but a ticket might. Some states are cracking down.

in these days of longer commutes and simmering tempers, nothing seems to set off already-testy motorists like the left-lane camper -- the guy or gal who drives in the passing lane and bars faster drivers from easily passing. Web sites have cropped up to educate other drivers, or to vent. There's a (somewhat painful) youtube song called "keep right."

even bigwigs get frustrated. Pennsylvania gov. Edward rendell, weary of having his limo slowed down by such left-lane pokies, ordered an aide to have the pennsylvania turnpike commission install signs a few years ago reading "keep right, pass left. It's the law."

and now some states are cracking down on left-lane campers, both to keep traffic moving and to tamp down the road rage that goes from zero-to-60 faster than ever before.

That's not just a pretext. Last year, a driver was arrested on interstate 79 outside pittsburgh after allegedly brandishing a semiautomatic pistol at a driver who was on his tail.

Left lane drivers in PA are absolutely clueless. I've never driven in a state with so many people with this horrible driving habit. They are so clueless that they do not even move over for police or ambulances ( yes I have been a witness to both). If they are pulled over they pull off on the left hand side, so when they start going again they jump right in the fast lane damn near causing an accident ( and no they don't use the shoulder to get up to speed then merge into traffic). But again, too clueless to realize what they are doing.

And we get our fair share of idiots who like to speed up when u try to go around them. Then they look @ you like you did something wrong once you finally get in front of them. They weren't going 75 when you were behind them, now they are damn near drag racing you to stay in front. I just don't get that. If someone wants to get in front of me, go ahead. Do what you gotta do. Its really not that serious. Its okay if someone passes you.
Please--I'll believe these enforcement threats when I see them. I agree 100% on the Penna Tpke. It's impossible to pass left. Flashing lights at these slowpokes just makes them drive slower. It's embarassing.

I've only said that when I've lived in Florida. When I lived around Chicago it was no problem. You go slow in the left lane around there and you'll get run off the road

"keep right, pass left. It's the law."
It may or my not be the law, depending on the posted speed limit. In virtually every state, the left lane is for those doing the speed limit or reasonably close to it, NOT for chronic speeders. Speeding is illegal no matter what lane you are in.......left, center, or right, although most cops don't usually write tickets if you are going less than 10 MPH over.

So then, you have to remember that if you are doing 75 in a 55 or 65 zone and you are "stuck" behind a person doing the limit in the left lane, that person has the law on his/her side, not you....unless it is an emergency vehicle with lights or siren on. In most cases, you just need to slow down a little. But that's the trouble.....many people just refuse to slow down, even when over the limit.

I also need to stress that this applies to American law and driving customs,, not German. On the Autobahn, of course, with no speed limits, yes, that IS the law....you MUST pull over to the right if someone comes up behind you. With no speed limits, no one, in Germany, has the right to block the left lane. In America, you must pull over ONLY if you are going BELOW the limit, not AT or slightly above the limit.

i'm sort of guilty for doing this. but only to road ragers, and sometimes for fun.

sometimes i'll see some aszhole behind me trying to pass me while i'm doing 75. When I see that, I'll speed up and pull alongside the car ahead of me in the next lane and wall off the dude who is trying to pass. I'm thinking "slow the fck down man!"

it's fun seeing his frustration as he has to make a wide pass across 2 lanes to get ahead.

In a number of states, going faster than 20 MPH over the limit, or 80 or above, is considered reckless driving, a serious offense. If you're doing 75 and someone tries to pass you (even if 75 is the limit), that person could be risking some serious fines.

But at the same time, most highways have signs stating that slower traffic must keep right.

There's been about a 14 year gap since I last lived in Florida and now, and I don't remember this being as much a problem then as it is now.

None of this is true in California. Pass left, drive right. It's the law no matter what speed anyone is going.

I'll admit that I do the same IF the lane(s) to my left are wide open and the person could easily pass there (I usually camp out @ 70 in the #3 or 4 lane.)

But at the same time it would be dangerous if the majority of traffic is flowing 10-15mph more than the stated seed limit and your the only one going 65 in the "fast lane" forcing everyone to move around you.

If I'm slow I just drive in the slow lane.

I sometimes like to blow the doors off the pokey bastards to make a point. THe point was made much nicer with the hardcore set I had on my G35 . It sounded like a monster. My GS sounds much quieter with the exhaust currently but its also much easier to live with on a day to day basis

i just wrote an paper on this for english class. you are more at risk of causing an accident driving 10mph under the limit than you are driving a little over
