Lightbulb BMW CS Concept = CANCELED

Last night, we got word that the one of the most awaited BMW cars, the CS Concept, has been canceled due to the financial crisis Europe and U.S is facing. In a press conference, BMW’s CEO, Mr Reithofer, confirmed that there will not be a series model of Concept CS”.

The CS has been rumored to be the next BMW flagship which might have replaced the discontinued 8 Series. The BMW CS Concept made its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show back in 2007 and it was one of the BMW’s most acclaimed concepts. Bimmer fans and car lovers were thrilled with the innovation and the plans BMW had for their new car.

The first rumors that the Concept will make into production surfaced in September 2007 and it was confirmed at that time by BMW’s CEO himself.

Obviously, the recent decline in sales and the financial crisis has everything with to do with BMW’s plans to nix the CS Concept, but as a BMW fan, I can only hope that sometimes in the future, the car will make its way into the production lines.

“All our actions are based on careful consideration and foresight. It does not make sense to build up stocks which are bound to reduce our revenues later on. We also have a commitment to our dealerships and the well-being of the company.

But there is another aspect towards improving profitability: We are reviewing all product projects again.

And we thus have decided that there will not be a series model of the Concept CS.

A recent analysis has shown that:

* First: Despite the great feedback this car has achieved so far, it does not match our ambitious profitability targets.
* Second: Our three premium brands have a strong brand image all around the world. This has been proven, for instance, by the latest Brand index analysis. So for the time being, we can do without this “brand shaper” since we have many others in our portfolio.
* Third and most important is that we want to focus our resources primarily on future projects and new technologies.
* In other words: Currently, our top priorities are EfficientDynamics and project I.

I dunno, something always bothered me about it. It's like the hood is out of place and doesnt quite flow with the body.

Beautiful machine! I believe BMW will be using styling cues from the CS concept to create a possible 8 series sedan below?

Speculation: 2011 BMW 8-Series

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Source: http://globalmotors.net/rendered-spe...ies/#more-6446

BMW is rumored to have plans to revive the 8-Series name for a potential “four-door coupe,” much like the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class. New 8-series would compete closely with the new Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, Aston Martin Rapide and Porsche Panamera.

Beginning of the year BMW placed Gerhard Richter in charge of development of its new Gran Turismo model, which is based on the popular CS concept car. New model will be called either simly GT, short for Gran Turismo or 8-series. Most likely the car will get the previous 8-series models name so that BMW can position it as the highest, most luxurious and expensive model.

This new GT/8-series model will be the first non M-series car to be built by the performance division. BMW M President, Herr Willisch said that the CS “It’s a car that doesn’t have any resemblance to the other cars built by BMW AG, so it was decided to give the project to us.”

New 8-series will have a larger wheelbase and sportier chassis than the 7-series, though it will be based on the underpinnings of the new 2009 7-series.

Expected engines will be a V8 twin turbo engine or a 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12. New 8-series will be introduced most likely in 2010 as a 2011 year model. Still a long time to go with lots of spy shots and rumors. As BMW has not started the testing of the new 8-series we don’t have any spy shots yet, what we have are two artist renderings of the new 8-series.

i saw a ticker scroll by on CNN last night showing their profits are suffering. So no surprise. But that is one insane concept.

Hopefully, some of the design cues trickle down to the rest of the model lineup...

Noooo. Of all the BMW line up, I was really hoping they would bring this one out.

What they need to do is stop the rediculous X1 X2 X4 x6 X7 X8 X9........ line up

Add me to the list of those mourning. Some of these cues seem to be in the new 7 but the overall mood didn't translate over. I really like the CS. May it rest in peace.
