Five years from now, by 2014, which vehicles do you think will make up the top 10 cars sold in the U.S?
Think about the trends in function, gas mileage, economy, redesigns, new cars, discontinued cars, car companies that may go under, popularity, warranties, etc.
Car companies need to consider the possibility of such changes. Their decisions within the next few years will determine their successes in the long-term future. Their successes depend on their predictions of changes and trends in the market.

Following is a list of the top-20 selling vehicles for 2008, ranked by total units.

wow, this should be interesting
but i don't have a list in mind, i'm going to go with hybrids mostly.. gm and chrysler merged? ford gone to hell? i don't think my predictions are going to be very accurate, other than maybe the hybrids bit.. Lexus to offer hybrids for every car they have lol
1) Toyota Camry : will be up for a redesign, and will continue to be popular
2) Honda Accord : will be redesigned and remain popular.
3) Honda Civic : will overtake the Corolla as the compact king
4) Toyota Corolla : will still be popular and affordable
5) Ford F150 : less pick-up sales, but will remain functional
6) Chevy Silverado : same as the F150, less but functional
7) Toyota Prius : a huge jump due to better technology and efficiency. Plug in availability?
8) Honda CR-V : best crossover in the market; will probably upgrade with V6 or hybrid?
9) Nissan Altima : it'll be due for a redesign, so it'll be popular
10) Hyundai Sonata : continues to crawl up in popularity
And I believe that most of the noted cars above will have hybrid variants by 2014...

3. Toyota Prius
4. Toyota Camry
5. Honda Accord
6. Ford F-series
7. Nissan Altima

10. Toyota Yaris
Reason behind my ranking: Gas price will be around $5/gallon at year 2014 so people will have no choice but to go small.

5. Ford F-150

Volt or some other comparable EV will very possibly be on that list if they manage to drop the price a bit after its initial release after the batteries and production costs drop.
Has GM said how many units they anticipate selling in the first year and if that's a demand or supply generated number?
I read various articles state that GM will produce 10,000 - 60,000 units of the Chevy Volt it's first year. GM will be selling each one of them at a loss initially.
I think all cars by then will (have) to be electric because there will be no oil left in the world by then. And hopefully we will not be using nuclear power because it's too.. bad?
Instead we should be using wave and tidal power, because we can make endless and exactly the amount of electricity we need/want - without limitations. So plugging in your electric car (millions of people) won't destroy the power plant.
edit: oh and it's free and non polluting
------------
That means I am also very happy to hear about electric vans
MKVI Golf will make it the #2 best selling world car (currently #3 behind Corolla/F-series).

Out of oil? We're talking about 2014 here... 5.2 years from now... we're not going to be anywhere remotely close to being out of oil in 5 years or even 15... I promise you.
