Mercedes-Benz to offer true C-Class coupe, CLK badge will die next year
Mercedes-Benz will be reinventing its entire family of coupes as early as next year and the best part will be a true C-Class coupe instead of the hatchback looking CLC that is currently offered.
According to CAR, starting next year Mercedes-Benz will drop the CLK badge and will offer a E-Class Coupe inspired by the Concept FASCINATION seen at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. The same will go for the CL which will now be called the S-Class Coupe. Both models will be moved up a notch in the lineup along with pricing.
The CLC will be dropped in favor of a true C-Class Coupe in 2010. That will in return spawn a C-Class convertible which will be positioned against the drop-top BMW 1 and 3-Series. Pricing for the C-Class convertible is expected to be less than the SLK. Nonetheless, the current CLC will play a major part in the remodeling of the bodystyle.
New engines will be offered with the C-Class coupe including a new 2.0L 4-cylinder direct-injection petrol, a new V6, a new 2.2L CDI and a range-topping 3.0L V6 CDI. We already know that around the same time Mercedes-Benz will also offer a hybrid variant of the C-Class.

Wow....I'm not sure what to think of that. The CLK badge/line-up is what made me love coupes. I hate to see that die off. Perhaps it will be a good thing and they'll simply kill off those hideous C-Class hatchbacks. IMO MB really needs to scale back their line-up. They're becoming like BMW with their 50 different models. Not that I want them to go the Lexus route and offer 8 or so models. Life is all about options but did we really need the X-6?? Good find Mike!!

I mean they have to do something with the G, GL and ML, then the GLK also...
And lets just hope they are going to make the C class coupe to be like this...

Mercedes needs to sit down and look at their model designations thoroughly... they have so many vehicles that don't follow the name that they give them it almost makes it a headache to try to follow along.
I like the CLK and hate to see the name go... But, I do like the true coupe thing for the C-Class... The hatch has been a failure in the states since it's first tour of duty...

LOL, COUPE as in large rear passenger seats??.....But yes they do need an LS based coupe. By that I mean dimensions wise with a fixed roof. As for the current model SC, it has always been well appointed, though a larger 4.6 liter engine wouldn't hurt.
