With the gas shortage/price and economy going down the crapper, I am considering 2 wheels. I've come across 2 canadiates. 03-06 Honda CBR 600 or a Ruckus. Looking to spend maybe around at max 3k on a CBR or 1500-2K on a Ruckus. What would you guys suggest? Ruckus kinda looks good tho heheh...matches my cars.
A Ruckus (not a Big Ruckus) is 50cc and will max at 35 mph on a good day.
I don't think it's functional. Fun, but not functional.

A CBR 600 is made for racing performance, and is not the most functional motorcycle for daily commuting. Insurance is very expensive when compared to other motorcycles, due to its racing gene.

If you want a motorcycle with gas efficiency and cost savings, get a used:
All 50cc scooters in the US are restricted to 35 MPH. De-restrict it and you should top out around 40-45 MPH. Add some cheap go fast parts and you go be looking at 60-75 MPH. I've had a 50CC moped for a while now. 1.5 gallon tank and I fill up about every other week.
If you commute on the freeway a lot, a supersport won't be comfortable at all. And where on earth do you find a 600RR for 3k? In the SF bay area, you'll be lucky to see any under 5k.
an SS bike really isn't that good for commuting/running around. i do on mine but tha'ts becuase i love riding so i give up some comfort along the way.
check out some of the other bikes mentioned, they're more comfortable and still powerful and fun.
I have both a 600rr and a vespa lx150. If your commuting around town or short distances the scooter is the way to go, if you need to go further then get a bike. Be aware that the 600rr is much harder to ride and you will need a lot more experience before your comfortable on it.
+1 for the Suzuki SV- I have a 1000 and use it to commute. Got the 1000 over the 650 mainly for the dual exhaust and better sound from the bigger twin...the 40extra hp had nothing to do with it.
