Default Anyone down for a diesel Lexus?

Peep this article I wrote... http://www.thespeedlounge.com/sl/200...green-or-blue/

What do you guys think?

Awesome power, excellent fuel economy, and the luxury ride and reliability of a Lex.

Would you be down to buy a diesel Lexus?

A simple comparison is to look at the Mercedes ML Bluetec vs the Lexus RX400h. The Lexus is cheaper, faster, gets better city mpg, and roughly the same highway mpg. It is also cleaner and vastly more reliable. You also don't have to keep servicing the urea canister to meet emisson levels. As to the disposal of the toxic batteries, the metals are very valuable and thus are serious recycle items. I just don't get the diesel lovers constantly beating down the hybrids. If the Europeans were to change their fuel tax policies, the diesel use over there would be much the same as the US and their cities wouldn't be covered with the diesel soot.

all the luxury brands: BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Lexus, and whatever else they consider luxury on the other side of the pond offer diesel engines in pretty much their entire lineup (minus Lexus).

These diesels aren't the same diesels that so many Americans are used to.

Hybrids are definetly evolving, we will see what happens in the future... there is no magic wand though, every technology has its ups and downs.

The most interesting comparison here is going to be the Lexus LS460 v. LS600h. The hybrid beast gets 25% better city consumption but suffers an 8% decrease on the highway! More research will be required to explain this ludicrous phenomenon.
Don't need more research. The answer is that the 600hL has a larger V8 and engine and is All Wheel Drive.

i agree, but you do get better mileage with diesels...so it pretty much evens out or diesels have the advantage there.

hybrids do better in the city because it an use more of tis battery. on the highway, only the engine takes over, thereby not using the hybrid component to its maximum capability.

i dont think hybrid AWDs really make a difference. unless im mistaken, the front wheels are never propelled by the gas engine, but by the battery...i might be wong though

Evens out, eh? Show me one out of 30 gas stations that carry diesel and figure how long you'll be riding around to find it.

i can understand where you come from, but in Cali, almost all gas stations carry diesel. especially if your by the trucking freeways, like interstate 80.

This is just san francisco!

guess its a regional thing.
