BMW has also had a $1250 cash incentive to dealer on the 3 series since May. Called the automatic transmission option incentive, but really just an ordinary cash incentive. More for the 5 series.
U.S. 3 series sales down 17% for the first half of this year over last. Has BMW finally stretched its premium pricing a little too far?

Remember, BMW has to deal a 50% hit due to the Euro vs. the Dollar. In addition, I think it costs them a lot more to build a car than say Toyota as they allow a ton of customization.

BMWs (well all European cars) have a very low profit margin as compared to the Japanese. So a 15K markdown means the dealer wants that thing off their lot! A lot of dealers I checked with had no M5s. Some have had the same ones for the last couple of months. Of course the hard loaded ones (cooled seats, etc) seem to be very hard to find. I require the heated steering wheel as it is my favorite feature of my 550 - and while it is only a $200 option on the 2008 M5, many dealers did not order it (it also was not available upon initial production of the 2008s). I have found one I like (same color as my 550 - so my neighbors will not realize what I've done) - but it is missing the cooled seats and the HD radio (two things I really really want) - but it does have the heated steering wheel Initial offer was about $5K below MSRP.
hopefully things stay like this and they have even better lease deals when my lease is up. i would love to pick up a M5 or M3, M3 convertible for cheap.

They price it premium but it doesnt always sell that way. BMW has had class leading lease deals and incentives for sometime now which of course helps sales. Surely if BMW sold at MSRP or close to it without those deals (like the one in this thread) sales would take a hit. Thing is they MAY actually be more profitable that way, instead of chasing sales.

Some of this, or much of it actually, has to do with the facelifted 3 debuting this fall. The "old" model has to be dumped as the new one comes around. Happens to most car manufacturers bringing in updated models.
335 is an amazing car, but is made for small people. the 528 will cost the same, is larger, but has anemic performance relative to the 335. Hard decisions
