CLK is based on a modified C-class platform, and if they change the next one to a E-class platform, then they will have BOTH a 2-door coupe(CLK) & a 4-door coupe(CLS) versions of the E-class . . . & MB has too many models already . . .
The CLS doesn't really sell that well anyway. It's more of a niche vehicle, no other automaker has a 4 door coupe out yet, there have been rumors but no production models yet. Moving the CLK up to 6 series and 1st gen SC status would be better than the CLS.
While I agree MB has too many models I think the CLK dropping the 6 cylinder versions and moving to an E class platform would make sense. Although to be fair I don't mind having 6 cylinder mid-size coupes like the SC300 and 630ci. But the NA market wants none of that for some reason.
I also have to say the SC is a poor GS coupe (which is what it's supposed to be). It's tiny and doesn't say "mid-size luxury coupe" to me.
No one should compete with the 1 series. It's fugly, it looks cheap and if you want to go fast (135) you have to pay damn near 335 prices. Screw that. BMW is creating a whole bunch of worthless vehicles.
Essentially yes but it's priced higher and considered almost an E-class coupe because of styling and pricing (also V8 options). It kinda serves it's purpose under both C and E class coupes but it's a pricey C class coupe even with the smallest engine.
