Default EVO & STI questions..

1) between the two which do you guys like more.
2) how much is a good used one going to run me that is 2 or 3 years old?
3) To get up in the neighborhood of 500hp how much does that cost and what does that include?
4)Are these considered the best tuner friendly cars on the market for what you get in a production car?

I am debating picking on up as a fun track car.

I would get the evo over the sti, evos quicker off the line. stis are nice cars but seem more like rally cars. evos are more street imo.

i see used ones goin for like 20 grand. but i would go with the evo.

evolution has more precise handling and can be pushed harder....
but you should understand the car most likely was driven hard... very hard... cause as you are aware there is only one reason to buy one...

1) as a former evo owner, I'm a little biased
2) if you're going for evo 8, they can be had for sub 20Ks, evo 9's are 20K+
3) 400bhp (300whp) requires basic bolt ons and ECU tune. 500hp will require a new turbo, new head studs, cams, and a retune.
4) Yes, especially in near stock form, you can get 300whp pretty easy w/ the evo 9's.

for track car, I would go with Evo, the reasons are as anyone else said,
but if I were to get one, STI gets my vote, a little more mature and the interior is nicer, and not much boy racer.

Evo wins, no question. The Evo runs circles around the STi in pretty much every magazine comparo across the generations (even those putting the Evo up against the world-spec STi, which Subaru sold out on by increasing displacement to 2.5L), as well as during track tests, and is very tunable.

This trend seems like it will continue into the future, seeing as reviews for the newest GR STi (or I guess STI now) are not good, with IMO the most damning being consistent opinion that it is unbalanced especially while exiting corners.

I dunno, I think hatchback is more boy-racer than anything Mitsubishi has ever come up with on the Evo, ridiculous rear spoiler and overstated styling and all.

I am toying with the idea of picking one up for a good price and then mod the hell out of it for another 7k and see where it goes or how it goes. They are all-wheel drive and I loved the S4 quattro I drove but that isn't the type of car that would be a good track car. The evos and STIs are mentioned by most of my car buddies as being the best bang for the buck. If I can get past the unusual amount of high school kids giving me thumbs up at stop lights than I might own one. Where is a good place to look for a used one?
