Default 2007 BMW 328i coupe reliability?

So I'm itching to trade in my IS250 for a 328i coupe with manual transmission, but part of me is saying to stay away because of reliability issues down the road.

I'm looking to get one used with ~10k miles on it. It'll still have the BMW 4 year warranty and free services, but I'm just worried about what can happen after that, lol. My mom owned a Benz and that thing was so problematic after warranty ended. Luckily, she bought the extended warranty and she has had almost more than $3k worth of repairs all paid for.

Any 3 series owner or anyone that knows of someone owning a 328i can give their inputs?

It is far more reliable than a Mercedes C class... but if far from as reliable from than the IS.... if you plan on keeping it after warranty you should either get extended warranty or be able/willing to pay quite a bit in repairs...

Unfortunately I don't own the new E90/92. I only own a 2002 E46 330i with 26K miles on it. So far even though it is out of warranty mechanically it is top notch. I have minor problems like sunroof shade plastic clips broke, but so far that is it. Can't really say on long term reliability on the E90/92 since the car is still new yet. BMWs are actually quite reliable mechanically. Often there are little minor things that occur. For those, you have to browse the BMW forums to see what patterns are coming up.

I have heard that fuel pumps were problems with 2007 335i's but I haven't had any issues. Then again it is really early for me to have a problem. I think an IS will be slightly more reliable but not much more. BMW has come a long way with their cars. The first year of cars is always sketchy since they are working out their bugs for the cars.

Solid car with the ironhorse 3.0 motor. You will not be disappointed.. Drive it then let us know your thoughts compared to your IS250..

FWIW, Consumer Reports says the '07 328i's reliability is Above Average.

I have had my 335i and I haven't had any problems yet. Only major problem so far with the E90/E92 is the high pressure fuel pump which only affects the 335i randomly. I have heard many say that the 328i is pretty reliable without any problems yet. If you wanna keep the car pass its warranty and don't mind paying for little random things get the BMW. But if you want a nice ride pass its warranty but only wanna ride and not worry about those little nuances then keep the Lexus.

As long as there is 6+ months left on the warranty, BMW will let you extend it for 2 more years. So you can decide down the road if you want to do that and then get the best price for the extension. You can even extend the maintenance if you want (a good idea if you drive a lot).

I would rather get a 2005 BMW 330CI Performance Package 6MT. Now thats a sexy car!

Plus its pretty reliable. I wouldnt want to get an e90 at all.

My roommate's E46 328 was a total lemon (so what did he do? go right back and buy a 335i! ). It's good to hear the E90 apparently has better reliability.

Abused women often marries another wife beater. There must be something addicting about getting jack we don't know about.
