Quote: It's already been confirmed that a 3.5 with the FWD/286hp and an optional 3.7 AWD with about 330hp will be available, the S will come in a year, but Acura always waits a year with the S Type
Where is this confirmed? It can only really be confirmed by Acura/Honda and I have not heard anything solid from them. From the stronger rumors I read it was 280hp for the fwd model and 300hp for the 3.7AWD model. I have not heard of any credible info of the awd model getting 330hp and that sounds a little too high for a non type S model that is going to be released right away but who knows.

Months ahead of its official debut, our spies caught the fourth-generation Acura TL out and about during final durability testing. When it comes to redesigns, Acura appears to be on a roll — we've already seen the new RL and TSX this year, and the new TL should arrive before the end of 2008, too.

In April, information leaked out of an Acura dealer meeting in New Orleans regarding the new TL. According to a source who attended the meeting, the 2009 Acura TL lineup will consist of two models: a base front-wheel drive car and an up-level all-wheel drive model. The front-driver will be powered by a 280 horsepower 3.5L V6 whereas the AWD model will receive its motivation from a 3.7L V6 producing 300 horsepower.

Despite boasting 300 horsepower and all-wheel drive, the range-topping model will not sport the Type-S nameplate. In fact, the source says that Acura will not offer a Type-S model, at least not in 2009. It remains unclear if the performance model will eventually join the lineup.

Acura has promised us a new TL by the end of the year so a Los Angeles Auto Show reveal seems likely.

I'm looking forward to this car. I was anticipating the TSX but it disappointed me severely with the lack of engine options and performance specs. This TL still holds hope though as the specs sound good. I just hope the designers didn't bastardize it. I know the front grill will be that ugly thing they are using on all cars now, but that can be changed easily. Acura's used to have good looking non offensive cars. Now, the grill is very offensive and their designs are not so great looking.

The title of my article in my last post is a link to the pictures if you cannot see them.

It looks like this car has keyless entry. Much like the new TSX, th back has that same 5 sided shape of the grill incorporated into it.

One of the Honda forum fan-boys over at The Temple of VTEC claims to have seen a brand spankin' new 2009 Acura TL — most likely at the April dealer conference where we'd heard the big dealers got a chance to ogle the new four-door in the shiny flesh. While we're not expecting to see the bed sheet slide off the skin of the new mid-size from Honda's luxury brand until sometime closer to September, the forumites are telling us to expect something similar to what we told you back in March, but the level of detail is — well — significantly more detailed.

TOV (Temple of VTEC) user "mri1112" claims he (or she):

"saw the car....3.5 w/280hp and 3.7 w 305hp....no mention of "S" Type at all.....the front and rear of the car in no way resembles the present car or TSX...larger than the present TL and present Accord....it is as drastic to the persent TL as the present TL was to the '03 TL.....20G hard drive on board for personal music recording ...push button start...."

But that's not the only details — there's also the look, which is supposedly very "transformer"-like:

"the only part of the tsx grill is the very top thickpart....slight resemblence...beyond that not similar looking at all....but the front and rear of the 09 TL is very futuristic, almost "transformer" in its look....the car was shown in new orleans april 11th to acura dealer body....end of sept release......rear lights on the '09 TL are a cross between civic 2 dr and camry....bold...tilted a bit down toward center...red lenses top and bottom ...clear back up in the middle but taper extensively around the side almost to the back of the c piller..the car looks sleek from the side yet agressive, angular from front and back...the car has no hatchback look at all.....from the side it is quite sleek looking ...sharp contrast from front and rear views which are very hight tech futuristic looking...the trunk lid has a bit of a dip in the center.....the rear lights and the rear bumper make the back panel of the trunk lid almost the shape of the grill.....5 sided.....topped off by a small lip spoiler on the tech model...the rear spoiler also has a crease in the center of the trunk dip.....the rear tail light form the side tapers greatly and almost reaches up the side to the rear of the c pillar....."

Well, we guess we'll have to wait for September to find out whether the Honda informant over there is right on.

Those spy shots look awfully similar to the artist rendering in the first post. Pay attention to the tail light and side profile.

Acura is effed...

they need to fire the designers.

holy ugly mother of god. sacrilege.

fail.
so bland!, no character lines, and that V-shape theme all around the car is nasty!!!
The tail lights look like ones from a honda civic. same idea.

they could improve on the current car. evolve it like infiniti does.

acura has taken 3 steps back.

If the teaser pic of the front end three posts up is right, then it doesn't look so bad at all. Those other spy shots though...I see Saturn and Mazda 100%.

I guess we'll have to see what happens.

Just like on the 08 Accord, not a fan of the large fuel door above the left rear wheel. UGLY!!!

I think the best bang for the buck is a new 08 TL with all of the incentives!!

Won't make final judgment until all the camo is off but the rear so far has a very Saturn Aura vibe to it.
