hands down for the Valentine 1. The directional arrows is just worth it alone. It is nice to know where the man is hiding.

Another thing I like about it is you can buy the remote module for 40 bucks and mount it on top of the steering wheel column or somewhere else you prefer.

 

9500i is in a class of its own!

1. Very rare to get false alarms and when you get one you can lock out that signal and it is eliminated. I had a portable radar display about a mile from the house locked out (a couple days before) and when I approached it the detector went off (I was going about 34 in a 25). It turns out the cop was down the block from the display so anyone who had radar would think it was the display. (Devious)

2. You can mark any location to alert.

3. When you get an alert the speed you were traveling at is displayed.
You also can get a continuous MPH readout.

4 There are several "AUTO" mode functions that are GREAT! 1. “AUTO” volume control: when you get an alert you get a voice telling you what band and a tone that will reduce in volume after a couple seconds. 2. "AUTO" highway/city mode sensitivity; under 50 mph = city, above 50 = highway. 3. "AUTO" dimming display, night = dimmer, day = brighter.

All the radar are useless when comes to local driving.

but I must say V1 have saved me from tickets over and over again on I-5.

 

i never use radar other than on long trips anyway

 

I had a V1 and can tell you it is a great detector but it is OLD SCHOOL, as far as features! What made me change to the 9500i is the excessive false alarms. The 9500i without using the lockout feature has far less falses and when you do get one you simply lock it out. Once you have your area filtered the ONLY time the unit goes off is when the PooPoo is around. Sometimes it seems like the unit is not even working!

you probably had the older units without the new POP protection to reduce false alarm.

but again, a lot of these are common sense, just ignore the signals while in city, you aren't likely to drive that fast anyway.

it comes with a booklet to tell you how to be smart about reading the signals picked up by V1.

another note i should mention is that in AZ, it gets to be about 120F outside and thus the inside of the car is probably 160+

regular detector would melt in this condition, my hardwired v1 sitting in the sun for hours and hours for 2+ years, magnesium alloy casing on v1 really helps

Both very nice.

 

I don't trust these things anymore since i got a ticket with my old V1.

A lot of departments, and state police are using Instant-On Lidar now, and good luck detecting that before you see that gumball machine flashing behind you.

Of course, there are some laser jammers, but how well they work is an argument for another day.
