More 2010 MB E-class spy pics
The unveiling of the next generation of Mercedes-Benz E-Class is still pretty far off--the 2009 Frankfurt motor show, to be exact. But Mercedes engineers are out testing prototypes of the new sedan.
According to sources and spy shots the new E-Class--code named W212--will adopt some of the exterior styling cues of the larger S-Class, such as the wheel arch extensions and the body side character line.
The new E-Class is expected to get the full suite of driver assistance technology--lane-departure warning, traffic signal recognition and road condition sensors, along with a new generation of stability control.
Sources say the new E-Class will be fitted with conventional brakes, a step back from the composite brakes used on the current car. But the new brake system will include wet-weather disc wiping and wheel-selective cornering control. Ceramic-composite discs are expected to be available on the AMG model, and may work their way down the lineup.
The engine lineup will include gasoline and diesels, in V6 and V8 configurations. Look for a 6.3-liter V8 for the AMG model, rated in excess of 500 hp.

I guess we're in for the upteenth revision of the E-Class basic shape, but now with cues handed down from the C-Class (mostly) and S-Class (to a lesser extent). Perhaps the quad headlights will stay, as that was a defining aspect. However, I'm hoping that the vehicle will have something more which distinguishes itself, besides the obvious Mercedes attributes. The S-Class has a certain look, now the C-Class has one. Is the E-Class "just" going to be a blend?
Not a huge fan of the current CLK (except the Black Series) and the R is very unattractive. I'm still undecided about the refreshed '09 SL.

Its happening again. Early 90s I liked the BMWs not so much the MBs. Late 90s liked the MBs but not the BMWs. Now I like the BMWs but from the spy shots I don't really care for the upcoming look. I like these MBs better than the previous gen., but they still arent my favorite.
